NITED STATES JOSEPH S. FOSTER, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
GAME APPARATUS.
SiECIFiCATiON forming part of Letters Fatent No. 441,405, dated November 25, 1890.
Application filed July 11, 1890.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. FGSTER, of Salem, county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Game Apparatus, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
The game apparatus to be herein described consists, essentially, of a track or roadway having a pin located at or near one end thereof, substantially as will be described, so that a wheel having radial peripheral openings or pockets tapering toward its center when rolled down said track will become impaled upon said pin.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a game apparatus embodying my invention; Fig. 2, an end elevation thereof, looking from the left; and Fig. 3 shows the wheel in section.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a track or roadway consisting of abottom board a, two sides a a and an end piece a The end piece has apin 1), (shown in Fig. 1,) which, as shown, occupies a position substantially parallel to the bottom board a,the gist of this invention as to the location of the pin being that the pin be so located that the wheel or roll will impale itself on the said pin. The
wheel 0, or, it may be, a roll. will be provided with one or more radial peripheral openings or pockets 3, tapering toward its center.
To use the game take the wheel or ball having the openings or pockets, stand it at the Serial No. 358,374. (No model.)
end 4 of the track or roadway, as shown by full lines, Fig. 1, and roll the same along the said track until the opening 3 is passed over the pin 1), as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
To practice this game one must have a steady hand and roll the ball slowly, so that it will not rebound, and calculation has also to be made as to the diameter of the ball and the distance from the end of the pin where the ball is started, so as to make a half-rotation, in the present instance, to bring the hole 3 opposite and to meet the pin. The pin is pointed, and the hole in the ball tapers sufficiently to allow some leeway to overcome the circular movement of theball at the time of its engagement. The ball cannot get fully upon the pin except by shaking the track after the ball has engaged the pin.
I claim- The herein-described game apparatus, comprising a track or roadway pivoted at one end with a pin b, substantially parallel to the bottom of said track, and a wheel or roll having a radial peripheral opening tapering toward its center, to operate substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof'I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH S. FOSTER.
