STATES EDWARD M. STEPHENSON, 0F 'HARTFOBD, CONNECTICUT.
GAME APPARATUS.
Application filed April 6, 1922. Serial No. 550,191.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. EDWARD M. STEPHEN- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Game Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of ref erence marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a side view of a game apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a face view of the same.
Fig. 3 a perspective view of the apparatus, with the wheel removed and the frame and its brace folded together.
Fig. 4 a perspective view of the wheel detached.
Fig. 5 a perspective view of the chute detached.
This invention relates to improvement in game apparatus, and particularly to those which are played with a soft ball, beanof the invention being a simple arrangement of parts, whereby, when the projectile is properly thrown, the device is caused to operate and indicate the count to which the player is entitled, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a 1 front frame, comprising side members 6 and 7, suitably mounted on a. base 8, and extending in rearwardly-inclined position therefrom. The sides are connected, at their upper ends, by a top piece 9, and near their lower ends by a plate 10. Hinged to the upper end of-the front frame is a brace 11, which is preferably adapted to be folded against the front frame, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings so as to be portable. Mounted in the front frame, on an axle 12, are radial arms 18, and, preferably, disks 14: and 15 will be secured to the sides'of the arms, so as to form pockets. As a convenient means for mounting the axle in the front frame, the sides of the frame will be formed with notches 16 to receive the ends of the axle, so that the wheel may be removed for shipment. In the lower edge of or other suitable projectile, the object the plate 10 is a notch 17, and centrally suspended below the plate, upon a yoke 18, is a nger 19, which is free to revolve upon the yoke. Preferably, the opposite faces of this finger will be differently colored, for the purposes as will hereinafter appear. Hooked over a bar 20, on the brace 11, and extending downward and forward to the front of the frame, is a chute 21, preferably formed on opposite sides with walls 22. The faces of the arms will bear numbers, which will be exposed, when the arms arein a vertical position. In playing the game, the device is set up and a ball 23, or other suitable projectile, is thrown toward the device, aimed at the upwardly-extending arm. If this arm is struck, it will be turned rearwardly, and the projectile dropped onto the chute 21 and be delivered in front of the device. The impact of the projectile will cause the arms to revolve, and when it stops, the player counts the number on the face of the upwardly-extending arm. As the projectile escapes from the device, if it happens to strike the lower end of the finger 19, it will cause that finger to revolve upon its supporting yoke 18, and if one face is exposed, the player may be entitled to another turn, or if the other face is exposed, the player may be entitled to two additional turns. On the other hand, if the projectile escapes on either side of the tinger, so as not to turn it, another player takes his turn.
I thus provide, in a very simple way, an attractive game apparatus suitable for indoor amusement.
I claim:
A portable game apparatus, comprising a front frame, a support therefor, radial arms detachably mounted in said frame, disks secured to said arms, forming a series of pockets, a chute secured to said support, in line with said pockets and extending downward and forward to the bottom of the front frame, and a finger centrally mounted at the bottom of the frame in line with said chute.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
