REVERSIBLE SCISSORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,323, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed September 13, 1890. Serial No. 364,898. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN THOMAS J EFFER- SON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Annapolis, in the county of Anne Arundel, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scissors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to detachable handles for scissors-blades, which are provided for that class of scissors known as reversible scissors, wherein the blades are provided with double cutting-edges, and has for its object to improve and simplify the construction thereof over the existing prior state of the art.
To this end the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the several parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

My scissors are simple in construction, durable, and cheaply manufactured, and in case of transportation will occupy but little space or room by simply detaching the handles.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation of my scissors will be obvious, but may be here briefly rehearsed as follows: The operator upon perceiving that one cutting-edge of each blade is becoming dull, and 9c wishing to dispense with their use temporarily, to use the opposite cutting-edges of the blades, he has only to partially unscrew or loosen the handles from the'blades by means of the clamping-screws and conveniently reverse or shift said blades and handles over to the opposite edges of the blades, which brings the sharper cuttingedges of each blade into requisition, thus lengthening the duration of time in using the scissors before I00 both blades require sharpening.
