IMPROVED TACK-HAMMER AND CARPET-STRETCHER.

Specification forming part of Letters'Patent No. 43,309, dated June 28, 1864.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Beit known that I, ALONZO HICKS, of Factoryville,in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain Improved Tack-Hammer and Carpet-Stretcher Combined 5 and I do hereby declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, where- 1n Figure l is a side view of said hammer and stretcher combined, and Fig. 2 represents the same in a position for stretching the carpet.

The same parts are referred to by similar letters.

In putting down carpets it is often difficult to stretch the same sufficiently, and but few y families have carpet-stretchers, as they are mediately driven by thev hammer, the one instrument performing the twofold duty of stretcher and hammer, thus requiring but one article to handle and operate with instead of two. l

In the drawings, a. represents the handle of any desired kind. b is the usual claw or tackdrawer. c is the hammer-head, formed with the face l and pane 2. 3 3 is the carpetstretcher, formedof a series of teeth on the side ofthe hammer. Said teeth may be formed as a portion of the hammer head or introduced in the same, as most convenient.

F g. 2 illust-rates the manner in which my carpet-stretcher is to be used.

The advantage and utility of this article will be apparent Without further description, and the same is a new manufacture.

The combined tack-hammer and carpetstretcher, made as specified.
