CARPET- FASTENER.
Specification forming-part of Letters Patent No. 49,850, dated September 12, 1865.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that we, \VlLLIAM B. BLAIS- DELL and JAMES E.A'rwoo1),of Lynn, in Essex county,in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Manner ofFastening Carpets tu Floors or'Mop-Boart'is; and We do hereby declare the following to he a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in fastening to the edge of a carpct'strips-of wooden molding and securin g the same to the floor or mooboard in such a manner that the carpet may be taken up or put down without the use of nails or carpet-tacks.
Figure l is a transverse section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view; Fig. 3, a combined view of carpet and fastener.
Letters A- A in Fig. 1 is the outside molding and inside strip, with tongue and grooves E E and screw B, can he made of any kind of wood and matched like common boards, excepting the groove should be larger than the tongue, so as to let in the carpet.

To put a carpet down with our invention we proceed in the following manner: We cut the carpet the size of the room; then put the carpet between the molding A and inside strip A, and fasten them together with common screws, the same screws being screwed to the floor or mop-board. The pieces or fastening may he the length of the room, or made in four-foot lengths to supply the trade. The fastening should be pressed up to the mop-board with a long stick, so as to let the carpet stretch. The stick may. be placed against the opposite Wall by one person while the other is screwingitto' the wall.
We claim- The combination of the fastener AA, groove and tongue E E, and pinsg g, when made and used for the purpose herein described.
