Description

WILLIS WEAVER,
OF SALEM, OHIO.
IM PROVED CARPET-FASTENER.v
I Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59.298. dated October 30, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIS WEAVER, of Salem, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ollio, have invented a new and Improved Carpet-Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, Which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my improvement applied to a carpet and oor. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
rlhe object of this improvement is to provide a simple and cheap device for fastening down carpets and other coverings.
This fastener is composed of wire so made as to have an eye in frontand one or more sharp hooksbehind the eye. The hooks enter the carpet and serve to attach the fastener thereto, while the eye is intended to catch over a pin in the ioor and hold the carpet.
In practical use these fasteners are attached at suitable distances apart to the edges ofthe carpet, and the eyes catch over pins Which are driven into the floor at distances corresponding to the fasteners along the base-boards of the apartment.
My improvement is not only applicable to carpets, but to all descriptions of coverings.
Referring to the drawings, A is my improved carpet-fastener, of which ais the eye and b the hooks thereof. The hooks b are sharpened, so as readily to enter the carpet E or other material With which the hooks combine, in the manner shown in Fig. 3. G are the pins driven into the tloor D, said pins being made to receive and hold the eyes a in the manner shown.
l do not limit myself to any special form of pin or holder for the eyes, nor to any particular position of the pin as to location, for they may be placed Wherever it is most convenient or most suitable to the Iioor or other surface to be covered or material to be stretched.
Havin g thus described my invention, I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as an improved article of manufacture- The carpet-fastener consisting of a Wire with hooked ends b and bent or turned at the middle to form eyes a, as and for the purpose specified.
WILLIS WEAVER.
