W. F. STANLEY.
PORTABLE SAW.
Patented Ji ly 15, 1890.
403 om mw y jimem UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM FORD STANLEY, OF SOUTH NORVOOD, ENGLAND.
PORTABLE SAW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432.337, dated July 15, 1890.
Application filed March 14, 1889. Serial No. 303,348. (No model.) -latcnted in England August 18, 1886, No.10,589.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM FORD STAN- LEY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of South Norwood, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Portable Saws, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 10,589, dated August 18, 1886,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to that class of saws known as the cross-cut, the novel features of which will be described hereinafter.
My invention consists in the peculiarities of construction, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of a saw made in sections and riveted together. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detached detail view of three sections enlarged. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 3 taken on line A B.
Similar letters refer-to similar parts throughout the drawings, in which (1 represents the plates forming the sections of the saw. Said plates are held together-by means of rivets b. The end plates of the continuity thereof are riveted to rods 0, provided with the handles d. The lower edges of the plates a are oppositely beveled at opposite sides and overlap, as shown, whereby the ad- 3' acent edges of two adjacent plates form teeth. It will be obvious that this form of saw may be more advantageous to the surveyor or forester, owing to the manner in which it may be folded or coiled up for transportation. In Fig. 3 and SKthe same principle is involved, except that the plates are each provided with central teeth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a portable saw, the combination consistin g of two or more plates riveted together, the
lower edges thereof being oppositely beveled and overlapping and forming the teeth, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of January, 1889.
\VILLIAM FORD STANLEY.
