Description

VALENTINE FOGERTY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COLLAR-CLASPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43.190, dated June 2l, 1864.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, VALENTINE FOGEE'IY, a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Collar-Clasp 5 `and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, ot' which-- Figure l is a front View, and Fig. 2 an edge View, of the clasp asit appears when open. Fig. 3 is an edge view of it as closed.
My invention is for the purpose of attaching a collar to a shirt.
In 4the said drawings, A denotes a button, to whose shank, a, a plate, B, is fastened, and projects dowdward at a right angle to such shank. To the lower end of the plate B a plate or flap, C, is hinged, so as to be capable ot' being turned from the position represented in Fig. 2 to that represented in Fig. 3. A small eye or hole, b, is made through the plate G, and when the plate C is turned up into the position exhibited in Fig. 3 such eye closes on or receives a stud, I), (projecting from the pla'e B in extension of or line with the shank a,) which, iu order to maintain the part O in engagement with it sufficiently for the purposes required may be furcated or split, and formed as shown in the drawings.
In the use of the collar-clasp the button A is to be inserted in buttonholes made in the neckbaud ot' the shirt, or the clasp is to be buttoned to the neckband by means of the button A. Next, the collar should be arranged in place around the neck ot' the shirt- 'band and have its ends buttoned on the stud VALENTINE EoeEETY.
