Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS BILLON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC COLLARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 49,702, dated September 5, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I,LOUIS BILLON, ot Brooklyn, in the county of Kings .and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt-Collar; and I do hereby declare that the following1 is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists more pai ticularly of' an improved means of fastening the collar to the shirt-band, as also the necktie to the collar, and which also facilitates the reverso operation.
To enable others skilled in the art. to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
ln the drawings, Figures 1, 2, and 3 represent several styles of collars with my improved fastening device thereon, and it is shown by A in Figs. l and 2, being a bifurcated clip raised suticiently to permit an ordinary shirt-button to pass underneath, the slot in it clearing the thread attaching such button to the shirtband. rIhis clip is intended to be applied more especially to enameled flexible steel collars, and as an improvement on my Patent No. 42,429, dated April 19, 186i. The operation of slipping this clip between the button and shirtband is too obvious to need any explanation. I use one behind and one in front, the endsin front being held together by means ot' a button, a', on the front side of the collar hooking as a key into a slot, a, on the other end, which also comes in front.
Instead of the bifnrcated raised clip A to embrace the shirt-bntton,a mere slot, A, Fi g.
prefer using said holes to pin the necktie to the collar before putting the latter on. To this end it can be pinned from the inside, the pin being entirely concealed from View.
In making the imitation stitching around the top part ot' the collar I at the same time give that part a slight dare or turn out from the neckan imperceptible curvewhich prevents the top edge of the collar from chang the neck.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States, is
A collar adapted for attachment to the .shirtbnttons by means of the auxiliary bifurcated piece A, substantially as shown and described.
y LOUIS BILLON.
