UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
. WILLIAM T. LORIMER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ABE LEVY AND HERRMAN LEVY, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
wire 0 O is preferably bent in the arc of a DEVICE FOR SUPPORTING THE LEGS OF TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 431,664, dated July 8, 1890.
Application filed October 16, 1889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. LORIMER, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pantaloons-Leg Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to attachments for pantaloons; and the object of my improvements is to provide a device which is adapted to hold the lower portion of the pantaloonsleg temporarily raised while the wearer is crossing a muddy street or other similar place. I attain this object in the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a back elevation of the entire device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same attached to the pant'aloons-leg. Fig. 3 is a section on the line a: 51:, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 isa view similar to Fig. 1,showing a modification of the device.
Similar letters refer to similar parts th roughout the several views.
A is'the pantaloons-leg.
B is ashield of thin rigid material, preferably non-oxidizable metal, perforated to allow the passage of a needle and thread to secure the shield to the pantaloons-leg. Said shield is secured to the inside of the pantaloons-leg. at the back and about six inches from the bottom of the leg.
0 (J are parallel legs, of an elastic wire, passing through and adapted to slide longitudinally in loops E E E, which loops are struck up from the material of which theshield B is composed. The loop E is larger than the other loops.
D D is a catch provided with shoulders e e. The two parts of the catch D D are held apart by the elasticity of the wire C O, and maybe pressed together by pressing upon said wire.
F is a piece of rubber or other resilient material" attached to the shield B and to the lower part of the wire. The lower end of the circle to correspond to the shape of the pantalocus-leg, and is secured to the pantaloons-leg on the inside at the bottom and at the back of the leg.
In the form of the device shown in Fig. 1 the catch D D is formed near the upper end of the wire 0 0. I11 the form shown in Fig.
4 the elastic piece F is omitted, and the catch Serial No. 327,248. (No model.)
D D is formed near the lower end of the wire 0 O. l
The operation of the above-described device is as followsz' In the form shown in Fig. 1, as usually worn, the wire 0 C is forced down, stretching the band F until the shoulders e e on the catch D D engage with the lower edge of the loop E, thus holding the wire 0 O in position. When it is desired to have the lower part of the pantaloons-leg raised, the two parts of the wire 0 C are pressed together, thus disengaging the catch D D,when the elastic strip Fcontracts, drawing the wire 0 O upward, which wire carries with it the lower part of the pantaloons-leg, as shown in Fig. 2 in dotted lines. In the form shown in Fig. 4 the elastic strip F is omitted. This form of the device is usually worn in the position shown in Fig. 4. When it is desired to raise the lower part of the pantaloons-leg, the Wire 0 C is pressed upward by hand until the catch D D engages with the upper edge of the loop E, Fig. 4, thus holding the pantaloonsleg raised. When the catch D D is disengaged from the loop E,
the wire 0 O and the pantaloons-leg fall by their own weight.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the shield B, adapted to be secured to the pantaloons-leg, an elastic wire 0 0, consisting of two parallel legs and reciprocating in guides on said shield, the catches D D, formed on the wire 0 C, and a loop E, secured to the shield 13 and adapted to engage with the catch D D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of a shield 13, adapted to be secured to the pantaloons-leg, a rod or wire 0, reciprocating in guides on said shield and provided with a catch to hold it in posi- WILLIAM T. LORIMER. Witnesses:
