GARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1919.
Application filed August 15, 1918. Serial No. 249,983.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVA W. Kn'rorr, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Rogers, county of Benton, State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to garters, and has for its objects the production of a supporting garter in a very simple, practical and eflicient form; one which will not bind the limb unnecessarily, and thereby unduly hamper the circulation of the blood; one which may be most quickly secured in place or removed as desired without the use of buckles, and which possesses additional advantages as will appear in the course of this specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a perspective of my improved garter as actually in use and upon the leg of the wearer, and showing the sock held in place thereby;
Fig. 2 is a detail showing the preferred method of construction and assembling of my device.
Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals refer to like parts, the base of my invention resides in the spring band open at the front and represented as a whole by A. This spring band A may be made of spring steel, spring brass, or other suitable material adapted for the purpose, and of a width and thickness best adapted for the purpose. The spring band A extends forwardly in the side members 1 and 1 adapted to pass over and upon the leg of the wearer from the back and hold itself in place through the tensioning effect of said spring band A. The spring band A may be covered with any suitable material or fabric as represented at 2. The purpose of this fabric is to prevent the spring band A from rusting, and to afford an intermediate agency between the said metal band and the leg of the wearer, and also to improve the appearance of the device. From the under sides of the side members 1 and 1 depend the supports 3 and 3 and from these supports 3 and 3 still depend the extensions 4 and 5, and 4' and 5, and at the extremities of said extensions are attached the fasteners 6 and 7, and 6' and 7. v
If desired, the spring band A may be suitably provided with a plurality of teeth 8 so located upon or along the edge of the steel band A as to engage the garment of the wearer, and thereby hold the device against slipping downward.
In use, my improved garter is merely clamped over the leg from the back, and the fasteners attached to the sock as shown, and it will be seen that I have herein provided a very simple, efficient and practical device for the purpose, and one which may be instantly secured in place, or removed.
While I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of assembling the elements of my said invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, so as best to embody the principles of my invention in a practical and attractive form.
What I claim to be new and patentable is:
A hose supporter comprising a resilient clamping band open at the front, supports depending from opposite sides of said band, hose fasteners carried by the lower free ends of said supports and downwardly projecting teeth formed on the lower rear edge of the clamping band, said teeth adapted to engage the under-garment and prevent downward slipping of the clamping band.
