- A. HELLENBERG.
COMBINED BELT AND SASH.
No. 429,910. Patented June 16, 1890.
/N VE N TOR vi Wham/w WITNESS S A TTOHNE Y8 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPI-I HELLENBERG, OF NEXV YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED BELT AND SASH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,910, dated June 10, 1890.
Application filed March 20, 1890. Serial No. 344,655- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH HELLENBERG, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Belt and Sash, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a belt and sash designed to be worn in warm weather when the vest and suspenders are discarded, the sash serving to conceal the waistband of the pantalocus.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective. View of the belt and sash detached. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the sash attached to the belt. Fig. 3 shows the interior of the sash. Fig. 4 is a detached View of one of the slides, and Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view showing one end of the sash attached to one of the slides on the belt.
A represents the belt, and B the sash. The belt may be of any suitable material and provided with any desired form of buckle A and adjusting-slide A for changing the length. On the belt are placed two slides O O, to hold the ends of the sash, and these slides are adapted to be moved along on the belt in either direction to release the sash when it is desired to remove it, and to draw it snug around the body when attached. The slides are moved by simply grasping the tabs 0' attached to the slides and pulling the slide back along the belt or forward, as the case may be. The said slides may each be formed of two plain bars 0 and one central bar a, or they may be made in any other suitable manner. The outer surface of the sash-slide is provided with a fastening device of some form, as 0 a plain bar or look to receive the hook b or other attachment at the end of the sash. The sash may be of silk or of any other suitable material and made of considerable width in the center, and of a width at the ends equal to or thereabout to the width of the belt, and of less length than the belt to only partially compass the waist of the wearer. At each end it is provided with a fastening-clip b, above referred to, adapted to engage with the loop or holder 0 of the slides to hold the sash securely in place.
In use the belt is placed around the body with the buckle in front for convenience. If the sash is to be worn, its ends are attached to the slides C, and the slides then drawn back on the belt until the sash is drawn snugly up to the body, and several interchangeable sashes may be wcrn with the same belt, which enables the wearer to have sashes of different colors and designs, any one of which he may put on at pleasure.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A belt provided with a buckle to secure it around the waist and having a fastening device at each side of the buckle, in combination with the sash of less length than the belt and provided at its ends with complemental fastening devicesto engage the fastening devices of the belt, substantially as described.
2. A belt provided with a buckle and with adjustable fastening devices each side of the buckle, in combination with the sash of less length than the belt and provided at its ends with compleinental fastening devices, substantially as described.
3. A belt provided with a buckle and with adj ustable fastening devices, having outwardly-extending loops 0*, and provided with tabs for sliding them on the belt, in combination with a sash of less length than the belt and provided at its ends with complemental fastening devices I) to engage the loops 0 substantially as described.
ADOLPH I-I-ELLENBERG.
