BRACELET.

SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,039, dated May 27, 1890.

Be it known that I, ANDREAs KiENLE,acitizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others' skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to reduce the cost of construction of and to avoid certain objeetions to the devices now in common use, and also to enable the bracelet to be held in its open or expanded condition while the Wearer is inserting or Withdrawing` her hand or Wrist, substantially as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

The invention consists in the improved bracelet and in the arrangements and combinations of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter set forth, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings,-

in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1 is a plan of the improved bracelet. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig.'3 is an'enlarged section taken on line x, and Fig. 4 is a detail showing the arrangement of certain recesses adapted to receive a catching-pn, teat, or lug.

In said drawings, a indicates a braeelet composed, preferably, of hollow Wire, and having` overlapping ends a' a', each of which is adaptcd to lie closely to or hug the body portion of the bracelet, owing to the resilience inhering in the bracelet material. The said ends are more firmly and securelyheld to the body portion by loops b b, which, however, allow a slight lateral movement of the ends in unfastening the bracele-t. At one of the ends the same is provided with a small teat or lug c, which lies on the side of said end toward the body portion, and the said body portion is provided with a series of recesses d (Z d to receive said teat and hold the bracelet in its closed or contracted condition. At the opposite end from that having the said teat the bracelet is provided with a recess eto receive the teat or lug When the bracelet is expanded or distended, to hold the said bracelet in that position while the hand is being inserted or withdrawn. The loops allow the teat to be withdrawn from the said recesses and the resilience causes the teat to spring into holding engagement with the recessed body, as will be understood.

By employing recesses on the Wire, instead of projections, I avoid the objection to the bracelet catching on the lace or other garment or clothing of the Wearer when the projections are out of operative engagement and exposed.

By expanding the bracelet to a point Where the teat coincides with the recess e said teat enters automatically into holding engagement, so that the hand can be readily and more conveniently passed through than when the bracelet is free to spring into close contact With the hand, as Will be apparent.

I-Iaving thus described-the invention, what I claim as new is- 1. The improved braceletherein described, consisting of a wire having a series of recesses formed therein, the ends of said Wire overlapping and being provided with loops, and one of said ends being provided with a teat lying on the side toward the body of the bracelet and adapted to engage or enter the recesses, substantially as set forth.

2. The im proved bracelet, coznbining therein a Wire with overlapping ends and a series of recesses formed in the body thereof and a recess e, formed at the end thereof, and a teat or lug arranged on the end of the bracelet opposite the one having the said recess e,substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
