UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAMBERT B. BATTIN, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,001, dated May 27, 1890.
Application filed December 12, 1889. Serial No. 333,438. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, LAMBERT B. BATTIN, of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a detachable and adjustable alarm which may be secured to a door or` door-knob, orto a window or windowsash, in such a manner that if the door or sash or any part thereof is moved or shifted the alarm will be immediately given.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specifieation, Eigure I represents my improved device attached to a door-knob, as will be hereinafter eX- plained. Fig. II shows the saine construction applied in a sligl'itly-different way to a window-sash.
In the drawings, A represents a forkshaped piece of wood or metal or other suitable inaterial, and is provided with a screwbolt B, which extends through the fingers of the fork, locking them together against the knob-shank C of the knob D. The top of the fork A is provided with a flat space which is adapted to occupy a horizontal position when in place, and on this seat rests a detachable bell or alarm E, which, when the knob D is turned, will, by reason of the tipping of the fork A, drop upon the iioor and give an alarm. The bell F is provided with a flat portion G,
which corresponds with the seating upon the top of the fork A, and by reason of this construction the parts will be retained in their normal operative positions as long as they remain at rest; but when, as aforesaid, the knob-handle is turned the bell will ring as soon as it is thrown from its seat on the top of the fork. The same construction differently adapted'and employed is shown in Fig. II, where the fork A is attached by means of a screw-bolt B or by other suitable means to the window-frame H. As will be seen by referring to this drawing, the said fork is attached to the frame at or near the top of the lower sash in suoli a position that the bell which sets inwardly toward the sash, so as to extend slightly over it, will be thrown from its seat to the floor when the sash is raised.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A support for burglaralarms, consisting' of a fork-shaped body having a bolt passing through its fingers for attaching it to the shank of a knob, and a plane seat onits upper or head end, on which a bell or other article of alarm may be placed, substantially as herein set forth.
