(No Model) A J. WELKER.
KEY FASTENER No. 584,532. I Patented June 15, 1897.

AMBROSE J. IVEIAKER, OF IIELIJERTOVVN, PENNSYLVANIA.
KEY FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,532, dated June 15, 1897. Application filed October 24, 1896. Serial No. 609,933. (No model.)
$0 at? whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMBROSE J. WELKER, residing at Hellertown, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Key-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a key-fastener, the ob ject being to provide an exceedingly cheap, simple, and eflicient means to prevent the key being turned in the lock or pushed out of the lock for the purpose of introducing any lock-picking means.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple device which can be quickly and easily applied to the door without disfiguring the same, and another object is to provide a fastening device or guard which can be used in connection with any of the locks now in use.
The invention consists in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forminga part of this specification, Figure l is a view showing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device complete, showing the position the parts occupy when in use. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, the set-screw being shown in elevation. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the fasteningrod. Fig. 5 is a similar View of the post. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the set-screw.
In carrying out my invention I employ a binding-post A, preferably tubular in form, having a socket at the outer end, the inner end thereof having-a base A, by means of which the post is attached to the door adjacent to the look.
A fastening-rod B is employed in connection with the binding-post A, said rod being preferably right angular in form and one end thereof adapted to fit into the tubular or socket portion of the binding-post, and for the purpose of securing said rod I employ a recessed head portion being fitted upon the head of the-key, while the right-angular end is secured to the binding-post A by means of the set-screw C, and after the parts have been so secured it will be clearly seen that it will be impossible to turn the key in the lock or force the key from said look. When it is desired to release the key, the set-screw is; released, the fastening-rod removed from the post and key, and the key can then be manipulated as desired.
It will thus be seen that I provide an. exceedingly cheap and simple construction of keyhole-guard or key-fastener which will effectually prevent the key being turned and will also prevent the key being forced from the lock.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination With the binding-post tubular in form, having a base-flange adapted for attachment to the door, of the right-angular fastening-rod, the short arm thereof being adapted to fit in the tubular bindingpost, the end of the long arm being enlarged and recessed longitudinally to receive the end of the key, and a set-screw for securing the fastening-rod in the binding-post, substantially as shown and described.
AMBROSE J. IVELKER.
