Description

UNITED STATES 'ATENT OFFICE.
EKINS HAND, OF ROCHESTER, NEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN J. FISHER, OF SAME PLACE.
.WASHING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,486, dated May 20, 1890.
Application filed January 24, 1890. Serial No. 338,022. (Specimens) To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EKINS HAND, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vashing Compounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My improvement relates to Washing compounds; and it consists of paraffine-wax, sperm-oil, alcohol, and oil of mirbane,in proportions substantially as hereinafter set forth.
The formula is as follows: Paraffine-wax, by weight, sixteen parts sperm-oil, by weight, one part; alcohol, by weight, one part; oil of mirbane, by weight, two parts. These materials are all mixed and thoroughly agitated, and then molded in the form of small cakes,
which in use are simply placed in a wash-" boiler with the clothes and subjected to the boiling process. This removes all the dirt effectively without rubbing and without the use of soap.
The compound above described makes a solid mass, which can be molded into cakes of any desired size and style. In case a liquid preparation is preferred, paraffine-oil may be substituted for the paraffine-w'ax, its qualities being the same. I employ the paraffine-Wax of commerce. v
In this compound no alkalies or acids are used. Therefore it will not injure the clothes in the least.
It is found by experiment that this compound is effective in removing dirt from clothes, and that no rubbing is necessary.
Having described my invention, I claim The washing compound herein described, consisting of p afiineavax, sperm-oil, alcohol, and oil of mirbane, in proportions substantially as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EKINS HAND.
