CHARLES F. MOSELEY, OF BERGEN, NEW YORK.
TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters :Patent No. 428,314, dated May 20, 1890.
Application tiled January 30, 1890. Serial No. 338,667. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. MosELEY, of Bergen, in the county of Genesee and State of New York, have invented a new and usefullmprovement in Tags, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved folding tag for use on express, freight, or other packages, the tag beihg designed to have written or printed upon its inwardly-turnedV faces or otherwise contain items of information relating to the ship ment, advertisements, or other matter.
The invention consists in certain novelties in the matter of the construction of the tag, which are hereinafter fully described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l shows the tag in one form folded, and Fig. 2 the same opened out. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the tag, and Fig. 4 the same opened out. Fig. 5 shows still another simple modification in the form of the tag.
Referring to the parts, A B are the two sides of the tag, which fold together on a longitudinal line a, somewhat like the cover of a book. The side A is formed with a slit b, and the side B is formed with a tongue c, to enter said slit when the tag is folded, as shown in Fig. 1. The sides are each formed with a folding fly d, which may be folded down upon and gummed to the side, as indicated by dotted lines on the side A in Figs. 2 and 4, or these flies may be left unfolded, as shown in full lines on the side B, and turned down when the fastening-string is passed through the holes e, formed to receive the string. The use of the fly is, as in other tags, to re-enforce and strengthen the material about the holes for the string.
One of the principal novel features of my invention consists in forming orifices f in the Open, may be formed upon the sideA with a hole f in the side B opposite each letter, so
th at the Word may be read through these holes when the tag is folded and attached to the vthis feature of the invention being to exhibit something through t-he openings f to excite the curiosity of persons seeing the tag for the purpose of causing them to open the tag and read the advertisement or other matter within.
Either form of the tag may also be provided with lips h, partially severed from the respective sides A B, for the purpose of holding a detachable sheet O, upon which maybe Written or printed any matter that may be desired, in addition to the advertisement or other matter printed directly upon the inwardly-turned faces of the tag itself.
This tag may be folded either way upon the line a, so as to bring either of the faces of the sides A B outward, and the tongue o and slit b maybe made at the sides of the parts -A B, instead of at the ends, as shown.
What I claim as my invention isl. A folded tag capable of being unfolded or opened, formed of a sheet folded in two parallel'sides or parts A B, having a tongue c, and slit Zi for the tongue, With letters or words formed on one of said sides or parts, and opposing holes formed through the other side or part to uncover or render visible said letters or words, substantially as and for the
