SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 374,812, dated December 13, 1887.

Be it known that I, ARTHUR A. SPRAGUE, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tags for Moncy-Bags and Similar Packages,

The invention consists in providing a blankof flexible material having an integral extension at one end, in covering the back with adhesive material, and producing upon the face various duplicate directions,'and in the manner of folding said blank upon the fastenings of a package, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,

in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a money-bag having the tag attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tag fully opened out, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of one side of said tag when partially folded.

In carrying out the invention ablank, A, is provided, rectangular in form, and provided at one end with a flap or extension,-B, about one-half the width of the body A, as shownin Fig. 2. The blank may be constructed of any pliable material-such as paper, or paper backed with muslin-and the body of the blank is adapted to be folded centrally and longitudinally upon the dottedlinea, which divides it into two compartments, A. Upon each side the central dotted line, a, three or more parallel lines are drawn longitudinally the body, and the words To andFrom, or other equivalentwords,are printed at the head of the top and bottom lines.

Near the extension end of the body a vertical line, (1, is drawn, whereby two rectangular spaces, 1) b, are produced, equal in area to the area of the extension 13, and in the space I), aligning the said extension, the dollar-sign may be printed, likewise the word Date,

the same data being oppositely printed upon the extension B.

The back of the entire blank is covered with acoating of suitable adhesive material, such as mucilage.

In operation the cord or tape D is held in any well-known and secure manner to the package, the ends of the said cord or tape being left of a length slightly longer than the greatest length of the blank. The blank, after having had the proper matter written thereon, is dampened upon the under side and folded over upon itself, as shown in Fig. 3, and likewise upon the cords, as shown in Fig. 1, the ends whereof project beyond the ends of the extension. The extension B is now folded over upon the blank space I), the cord being carried with it and securely attached to the body, the ends of the cord projecting slightly beyond the inner end of the extension, as shown also in Fig. 1. Thus the tag is made to securely embrace the ends of the string upon both sides, and the said string cannot be tampered with to open the package without tearing or mutilating the tag. The tag being prepared with the same data upon both sides, the directions are at all times visible.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The tag for money-bags and similar packages herein described, consisting of a rectangular body adapted to be folded centrally upon itself, and provided with a flap at one end half the width of the body, the back of the flap and body being coated with adhesive material, substantially as shown and described.

A blank tag for money-bags and similar packages, consisting of a body, A, divided in two sections by a central longitudinalline, a,- and two smaller sections, b b, by a vertical line, d, the large sections containing duplicate printed matter, the section 1) different printed matter, the section 12 being blank, and a flap, B, one-half thelwidth of the body, aligning the section b and similarly marked, the entire blank covered at the back with an adhesive material, substantially as shown and described.
