PATENT OFFICE..
OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-LABEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,146, dated June 21, 1887.
Application filed June -1, 1586. Serial No. 204,1'12. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that l, ELIIANAN L. MOODIE, a citizen of the United States, residingin the city and county ofNcw York, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Labels for Bottles and other Receptacles, of which the following` is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a label which, while preserving the form of a band, will have an enlarged surface for advertising-matter and be adapted to receive and retain extraneous matter-such as advertising circulars or cards, orsamples ofgoods contained in the bottle.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings is a front elevation of a bottle provided with this improved folding label represented as closed and sealed. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a bottle provided with this improved folding label represented as nnsealed and open. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the bottle and label, on the line a: .r of Fig. l.
This improvedlabel consists of an elongated band, A, comprising a central section or body, A', and folding wings or flaps B B', integral with the body. The body A is provided with an adhesive coating on its rear face for seenr ing the label to the bottle. The flaps B B are united with the body A at the vertical sides of the latter and folded against said body, eov ering the face thereof. The free ends of these flaps meet or overlap at the center of the body ofthe label, and are provided with a fastening device, which permits the fastening` and sealing ofthe label in closed position. This fastening device Inay consist of a tape, a, secured at one end to the flap B in any suitable manner, and passed through slits b therein, and afterward sealed to the opposite flap, B', when the label is in a closed position.
The space on the inner or meeting faces of the folded label may be used for advertising pu1poscs,while the exterior faces of the folded flaps may contain the matter usually imprinted on a label, including the trade-mark. lf desired, extraneous matter in the form of cards or circulars or samples of the contents of the package may be placed in the folded label, and when the ilaps are drawn together and scaled such extraneous matter will be held or bound within the label.
I claim as my invention# 1. Abottlelabel consisting of a rectangular band comprising a central section or body and end sections or tlaps folded upon said body, said body being provided on its rear face with an adhesive coating for attachment to a bottle and the meeting ends of said folding flaps being provided with a fastening device, sub stantially as described.
2. A bottle-label consisting of a rectangular band colnprising a central section or body and end sections or flaps folded upon said bogdy, said body being provided on its rear face with an adhesive coating for attachment to a bottle, and one of said flaps having a transverse slot and being provided with a tape or ribbon attached at one end thereto and passed through said slot, the opposite end being designed for sealing to the outer face of the other flap, substantially as described.
