UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN P. ONDERDONK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PAPER BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,589, dated June 19, 1883.
Application filed December 13, 1852- (Model) To dz; whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN P. ONDERDONK, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a cer- I then specifically pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 represents a piece of pap er in which the four lines A B show four cuts made through the paper from A to B, and severing it. The sides 0 D are then folded over upon the body of the paper at the dotted lines E F and paste applied to their inner edges. The paper is then folded over on itself at the dotted line G H, which gives the appearance represented in Fig. 2. The flaps J are then supplied with paste and folded in upon the sides of the paper, as represented in Fig. 3. The bag when opened appears as in Fig. 4. The dotted lines in Fig. 1 show the various creases of the folds of the completed bag.
The slits A B may vary in shape without affecting the integrity of the bag also the flaps J may be folded either inside or outside the sides of the bag. The application of paste may be made, as described, or all at one operation, by suitable machinery or by hand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s a A paper bag made from a piece of paper having two slits cut on each side to form flaps J, and the sides folded as described, and the flaps J pasted upon the closed sides of the bag, substantially as described.
