UNITED NSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
VINCENT P. ToMMINs, or NEw'YoRK, N. Y.
DISH-COVER.
SPECIFICATIDN forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,543, dated March 18, 1890. Application led January 12, 1889. Serial No. 296,182. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VINCENT P. ToMMINs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dish-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
'lhe obj ect of my improvement is to provide a cover for dishes whereby access can be obtained to the contents thereof without removing the said cover; and to this end my invention consists in a cover constructed in two sections, one ot vwhich is adapted to be rotated to a position within the other.
In the accompanying drawings', Figure 1 is a plan of a dish-cover constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof shown open. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same, the section being taken on the line Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference refer io similar parts in the several views.
A A designate two sections, each circular in horizontal cross-section, forming the cover, and are pivoted together at their apex by means of a pin a. This pin is rigidly secured to a lug formed integral with or otherwise secured to the section A, and is provided with a screw-threaded portion to engage with a nut a .so Iirmly that the said movable section may be rotated thereby, the nut thus forming a finger-piece. The section A is provided with a similar lug, through which the pin a By this construction the two sections may be readily detached for cleaning. The outside contour of the section A is made to correspond approximately with the inside contour of the section A. The section A is provided with a flange b, projecting outwardly, and the sectionA is also provided with a ange c, projecting inwardly.
These flanges conceal the edges ot' the two sections when occupying the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
D is an annular strip secured to the base of the sectionA, and formsa support and track for the rotary section A. This strip is bent upwardly on its inner side, whereby the track .is kept free from material tending to obstruct Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A dish-cover constructed in two sections, pivotally connected together at their apex, one being adapted to rotate horizontally withinthe other, and the movable section being provided with a finger-piece at the. pivotal con-v nection for rotating it, substantially as set forth.
2. A dish-cover constructed in two sections, pivotally connected together at their apex, one being adapted to rot/ate horizontally within the other, the pivotal connection being extended to form a finger-piece for operating the movable section, the stationary section having secured to its` base an annular plate provided with an upwardly-extending ange on its inner edge, substantially as described.
