lMPFtOVEMENT IN SLEEPING-GARMENTS FOR TRAVELERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 42,1118, dated April 5, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VIRGIL P. CoRBE'rT, of the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleeping-Garments for Travelers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of' this specification, in Which- Figure l represents a portion of the garment with the straps attached, and Fig. 2 the reverse side of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
rI`he object of this invention is to convert the ordinary overcoat, sack, or cloak into a comfortable sleepin g-garinent for travelers by attaching thereto supporting stra-ps or cords.
The collar C is made Wide, and provided at the outer corners with buttons, hooks, or eyelets, to which are attached the straps s s. The straps s s may be fastened by means of hooks or rods attached to the ceiling of the car or coach, or the straps may be fastened to the seat in front, or may be supported by the foot or knee of the traveler. When the straps are attached to the collar of the garment and fastened as above described, the head of the subject to the jar of the car or coach, as is the case When the head-rest is fastened to the back of the seat. The straps s s may be made elastic, if desired, or of cloth, leather, or other material, and adjusted by buckle or otherwise. By a slight alteration an ordinary duster may be converted into a comfortable sleeping-garment for ladies or gentlemen.
What I claim` as my invention, and desire io secure b'y Letters Patent, is-
The combination of straps or cords s s with the collar C of a travelers garment, as and for the purpose specified.
