EYEGLASS-HOLDER.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 421,099, dated February 11, 1890.
Application filed October 31, 1889- Serial No. 328,824. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.- I
Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. KELLEY, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in'the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eyeglass-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an eyeglass-holder made of wire bent in the form of a double hook,wl1ich is adapted for attachment to the ear of the wearer, whereby a much shorter length of chain or cord can be employed than heretofore and liability of catching the same upon projecting objects is prevented.
Figure 1 represents a View showing the att-achment of the eyeglass to the ear. Fig. 2 represents the same when taken from the ear. Fig. 3 represents a modification in the 0011- struction of the eyeglass-holder.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1, A is the'eyeglass; B, the holder, which is secured to the base of the ear 0 of the wearer; and D- is the cord or chain which serves to connect the eyeglass to the holder at the ringor eye a, which is preferably located at the lower end of the holder, The holder B is preferably formed of hard-drawn wire, which is bent in the form of a double hook I) b, the ends of the hooks b I) being preferably turned to form an eye 6, or provided with a knob,
which will serve to prevent the ends of thehooks from scratching the ear.
The attaching-eye a for the chain or cord D can be formed by a separate ring soldered to the wire of the lower hook b, or it can be formed by bending the Wire of the hook with a loop, as shown in Fig. 2.
When the holder is made of plated wire, instead of gold or German-silver wire, which are more elastic than plated wire, I prefer to pass the end portions of the opposite hooks b I) through the eye e of the opposite hook, as shown in Fig. 3, and in this case the softer plated wire of the holder will be held in proper form for ready attachment to the ear without danger of being bent out of shape.
I claim as my invention 1. An eyeglass-holder made of wire formedare adapted to I with two opposite hooks which embrace the ear of the wearer, substantially as described.
2. An eyeglass-holder made of wire formed with two opposite hooks which are connected to each other at their end portions, substantially as described.
