Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS BUOB, JR., AND FRED BUOB, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
FUNNEL-STRAINER. s
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,628, dated December 17, 1889.
Application filed September 9, 1889. Serial No. 323,422. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that we, LoUIs BUoB, J r., and FRED BUOB, citizens of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have jointlyinvented a new and useful Improvement in Funnel- Strainers, otl which the following is a speci-l fication.
The object of our invention is to providea novel funnelstrainer adapted to fit funnels of various sizes.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a vertical section through a funnel provided with one of our funnel-strainers. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through one of our funnelstrainers, showing a portion of the stem broken away. Fig. 3 is a top view of the strainer detached. Fig. 4 is a perspective of the sleeve detached.
A is a funnel, and B a stem having loosely mounted thereon a sleeve C, carrying a strainer D, of any suitable construction. The stein is provided vwith a handle b at the upper end, and is preferably curved at its lower end and provided with teeth b b', adapted to engage the nozzle of the funnel. The strainer may be rigidly mounted upon the sleeve, as shown in Fig. l. We prefer, however, to make it detachable therefrom. To accomplish this, the sleeve is provided with shoulder c and lugs c c', and the strainer with an opening D and recesses d', adapted to take over the sleeve and projections thereon. The strainer may then be so moved that the lugs secure itin position. In this way strainers of different mesh may be used withY a single sleeve and stem.
E is a spring adapted to bear against a collar b4 on the stern and an inward projection c on the sleeve to force the strainer downward against the inner Wall of the funnel Whenever one of the teeth b b engages the nozzle of the funnelfas shown in Fig. l.
We claimy l. Thecombination, with a funnel, of a strainer carried by a stem, said stem being adapted to engage the funnel and hold the strainer in position, and a spring adapted to press the strainer against the Walls of the funnel, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination, with a funnel, of a strainer carried by a stem and adjustable thereon, said stem being adapted to engage the funnel and hold the strainer in position, and a spring adapted to press the strainer against the walls of the funnel, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination, with a funnel, of a stein provided with teeth adapted to hold it in engagement With the funnel', a sleeve loosely Inounted thereon having a shoulder o and lugs c, and a strainer secured to said sleeve and provided with openings D and recesses CZ', substantially as and for the -purpose described.
LOUIS BUOB, JR. FRED BUOB.
