MILK PAIL.
No. 353,1. Patented Nov. 23, 1886.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
FREDERIG G. FORD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MILK-PAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 353,213, dated November 23, 1886.
Q .Appiication filed August 10, 1885. Serial No. 173,910. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIO G. FORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Pails, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying This invention relates to certain improve ments in milk-pails; and it has for its objects to provide a spout for the same which will be unobstructed on its interior, so as to preventthe collection of milk, which might sour therein, and permit the spout to be readily cleaned, and at the same time to form a spout to which a strainer or funnel may be readily attached by means of a screw-threaded annulus, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional View of a milk-pail, showing my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2, a view of a strainer and fun nel to be employed in connection therewith; Fig. 3, detached sectional views of the spout and its attachments, and Fig. 4 a detached sectional view of the strainer.
The letter A indicates the spout, which is constructed of a tube orfrusturn of metal, and which has its upper edge turned over on its outside, forming a seat, D, for the annular frame 0 of a strainer, or for the flanged edge of a funnel, F. The turned-down outer edge claim, and desire of the spout is struck up in the form of a screw-thread to receive an annular screwthreaded cap, E, which confines the strainer or the funnel, or both, to the seat at the edge of the spout.
The letter B indicates the strainer, which is adapted to fit in the month of the spout and be secured to the same by means of the annular screw-threaded cap before mentioned.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the spout is frustum-shaped, but in other respects is constructed in a similar manner to the spout shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I to secure by Letters Patent,
1. A spout for a milk-pail, having its outer edge turned downward on the outside, the out side downward-turned portion being formed with a screw-thread for the reception of an annular binding-cap, the interior of the spout being left smooth to prevent accumulations, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the spout having a downturned external screw-threaded edge, of the strainer and funnel and the annular cap for securing the same, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERIC G. FORD. Witnesses: I
CHAS. D. DAVIS, H. J. ENNIS.
