UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH O. BEAZLEY AND HENRY S. BREWINGTON, OF BALTIMORE, MD.
MILK-PAIL STRAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,183, dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed July 15, 1886. Serial No. 208,129. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOSEPH O. BEAZLEY and HENRY S. BREwINGToN, citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milk-Strainer Pails, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in milk-pails, which will be hereinafter more particularly described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a vertical transverse section. Fig.' 2 represents transverse vertical sections of the several parts sep arated from each other.
A is the can or pail, having a dome-formed top, A, with flange a a surrounding the opening A.
B is a spout having a cap, b, secured by screw-threads.
O is a funnel-shaped strainer-bowl having the lower section, 0, a frustuxn of a cone, through the sides of which are two pins, 0' 0, projecting beyond the line of the outside the thickness of the flange a. The purpose of these pins 0 is to pass down through small slits a inthe lower edge of the flange a, so that when the strainer is inserted, as seen in Fig. l, by giving it a slight turn in either direction, the strainer will carry the pins 0 under the flange a and secure the strainer to the pail A, so that should the pail be oversetthe strainer cannot fall off.
D is a separate conical frustum having secured to its bottom edge a strainer of fine wirecloth, d, which may be straight or curved, as
shown by d. This separate strainer is in serted within the frustum c and fits it very snugly. The frustum c is also fitted within the flange a of the opening A". At the bottom of the frustum c is fitted a band, E, which is designed to hold a strainer of cloth, 6, like all ordinary strainers.
ais a handle at the lower end of pail A, 0p posite to the spout. A bail-wire handle is also used, and being so common is not represented in the drawings.
The advantage of the dome-shaped top with the deep flange a is that the top is thereby made very strong and able to resist very rough usage. It also serves by its form, in connection with the conical shape of the part c of the strainer-bowl, to stiffen the latter in its seat on the pail in the ordinary use while milking, so that with ordinary care the same cannot be misplaced. Should the animal be restive, the pins can be secured under the flange, and if the pail be overset the strainer-bowl will not be dislodged nor the milk spilled,'as the dome shape and the flange a will retain the contents.
We claim The combination of the strainer-bowl having the conical flange c and pins 0 with the pail A, having a dome-shaped top provided with a conical flange, a, having slots a around the openingin the dome, substantially as described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we hereto affiX our signatures in pres ence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH O. BEAZLEY. HENRY S. BREWINGTON.
