B. M. oss.
SEAL.
No. 417,510x
Patented Dec. 17, 1889'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REUBEN M. ROSE, OF NORWALK, CONNECTICUT.
SEAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,510, dated December 17, 1889.
Application filed December 29, 1888- Serial No. 294,972. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: I
Beit known that I, REUBEN M. RosE, of Norwalk, county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seals; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to they the seal. Fig. 4 is aview of the main portion of of the form shown in Fig. 2 with one end of shackle E hooked on tongue D of disk portion A. Fig. 7 is asimilar view with one end of shackle E hooked in slot C, as shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 8 is a shackle having its ends turned over in a hooked shape. Fig. 9 is a similar view having portions of metal cut out to form a hook shape at either end, as G G.
To enable others skilled in the art to make my improved seal, I will proceed to describe fully the construction of the same.
Figs. 8 and 9 represent a shackle of any proper length and width, which is provided at its end with a hook shape, as indicated by F F and G G. I
Figs. 5 and 6 show the inside disk portion tongue D of disk A. Figs.4= and 7 show a similar disk with slots C C.
Fig. 4 represents a disk B for one side of seal, with slots C C for the purpose of introducing into said slots the ends F F of shackle E, as shown in Fig. 7, when the disk H overlaps the periphery .of disk B. By this means the seal is made complete.
Fig.5 represents another form of a disk A for one side of seal, which is provided with an overhanging rim adapted to having one portion of said rim pressed down to form the tongue D, the remaining portion of said rim to be closed down upon the periphery of a like disk A, with tongue portions D facing each other. After the disks. are closed together by the overhanging rims the hook portions D form an opening to admit the introduction of the ends F F of shackle E, as shown in Fig. 6. By this means the seal is made complete.
The manner of using the seal is substantially as follows: The seal being in the condition indicated in Fig. '7, the slot-ted disk B being overlapped by disk H, and. one end of shackle E passed into slot C, with its hooked,
the portion F of shackle E over the inner edge of slot C in disk B. By means of this construction a perfectly secure fastening is obtained.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
- 1. In a seal, the combination of two or more disks adapted to be secured together and having one or more openings, and a shackle having hooked ends to engage in said openings, substantially as set forth.
2. In a seal, the combination of the disks H and B, adapted to be secured together, and one of said disks having slots C C, and the shackle E, having hooked ends F F, to engage in said slots, substantially as set forth.
This specification signed and witnessed this 20th day of December, 1888.
- REUBEN M. ROSE.
