ALBERT M. WOERNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 FREDERICK FRIEDERICH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AND ONE-HALF TO FRANCIS L. BOUQUET,
OF EDGEWATER, NEW JERSEY.
sAsH-coRD VrAsTEivEr..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT M. IVOERNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Cord Fastener, of which the follow ing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to sash cord fasteners, and has for its object to provide a new and improved fastener which is simple and inexpensive and by means of which the cord can be quickly and readily attached and detached from a sash.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a sectional view of a portion of a window casing and sash showing the improvement applied; Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the separated tubular members constituting the cord fastening device; and Fig. et is an enlarged cross section of one of the cord fastening devices as applied and with the cord fastened thereto.
Referring to the drawing, A is a window casing, B the upper sash, D the cord guide, E the cord and F the fastening device for the cord.
The fastening device F is held in the stile B of the sash B at a point a short distance below the top cross bar of the sash B, as plainly indicated in Fig. l. Each fastening device F consists of the inner and outer tubular members F and F2, of which the member F is provided with bayonet slots F 3 for engagement with inwardly projecting lugs or studs F4, struck up from the outer tubular member F2, as indicated in Fig. 3. The outer tubular member F2 is fitted snugly into a recess B2 formed in the stile B, so that the outer closed end F 5 of the inner member F is flush with the outer face of the stile B', and the inner closed end of the member F2 is secured by screws H to the stile B, as plainly shown in Fig. 4. At
Specication of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 22, 1909.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Serial No. 518,903.
the end F5 are formed openings F, F7, located one above the other, for the passage of the cord E to the inside of the member F, the cord portion within the said member being tied into a. knot E2, as plainly shown in Fig. 4, so as to securely hold the cord E in position on the fastening device F.
By the construction described the fastening device F can be readily applied to a sash, and the inner member F thereof can be quickly detached from the outer member F2, to completely disconnect the cord E from the sash whenever it is desired to remove the sash for repairs or other purposes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. A sash cord fastener, comprising two tubular members, each having an open and a closed end, and secured one within the other with their closed ends outward, the closed end of one member being apertured for the passage of the cord.
2. In a sash opening and closing device, a fastening device formed of an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member, the members having bayonet slots and studs for engagement with the bayonet slots to lock the members together, the closed outer end of the inner member having apertures for the passage of the cord.
8. In a sash opening and closing device, a pull cord, and a .fastening device formed of an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member, the members having bayonet slots and studs for engagement with the bayonet slots to lock the members together, the closed outer end of the inner member having apertures for the passage of the cord, and the latter having a knot within the said inner member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT M. IVOERNER.
