UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. WEATHERS AND ERNEST L. HILL, OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA.
SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,935, dated February 21, 1905.
' Application filed May as, 1904. Serial No. 210,264.
To t whom/ it Duty concern:
Be it known that we, J OHN F. WEATHERs and ERNEsTL. HILL, citizens of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Show-Case, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to show-cases, being especially directed to an improved door or closure thereof, and has for its objects to produce a comparatively simple inexpensive device of this character which will be smooth and easy in its movements, one which may be readily manipulated for opening or closing the case, and will when in the latter position effectually preclude the entrance of dust therethrough to the case.
To these ends the invention comprises the novelfeatures of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly in section, of a portion of a show-case embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal longitudinal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an outer main frame constituting a part of the wall of the show-case and having fitted therein a supplemental frame 2, secured in place by screws or other fastening devices 3, the supplemental frame having formed directly thereon or being otherwise provided with a pair of inwardly-projecting tongues or headset 5, constituting, in effect, continuous tracks or ways which extend in spaced parallel relation wholly around the interior of the frame, upon which there is also formed or provided an inwardlyextending beading or flange 6, disposed outside of and in spaced parallel relation with the outer track or way 4.
Mounted for travel respectively upon the tracks I 5 is a pair of slidable doors or closures 7 8, provided with continuous marginal grooves or recesses 9 10, the side portions of which receive the top and bottom portions of the tracks, while the'end portions of the grooves receive the end portions of the traclks when the doors are in open or closed position, attention being directed to the fact that the tracks are appropriately spaced to permit of the closures freely passing each other in travcling from end to end of theframe.
It is to be particularly noted that in practice the tracks or heads 4: 5 will fit snugly within the grooves formed in the doors, while at the same time the latter will move readily and freely in opening or closing, and that the outer bead or flange 6 will lie snugly against the adjacent face of the outer door. Thus it is apparent that liability of dust finding its way between the frame and closures for entrance into the show-case is minimized, if not wholly precluded. Furthermore, owing to the tracks or ways and the outer flange being of wood and formed integral with the closurereceiving frame the construction as a whole is simplified and the cost of manufacture materially reduced.
From the foregoing it will be seen that there is produced a comparatively simple inexpensive device which in practice will efficiently perform its functions to the attainment of the ends in View, it being understood that minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention. For example, while we have herein shown and described the device as applied to show-cases it is to be understood that the same is equally applicable to other classes of furniture and cases in which sliding doors are employed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is In a show-case, the combination with a main frame, of a supplemental frame arranged within and secured to the main frame and provided with a pair of laterally-spaced continuous rails extending entirely around the interior thereof and formed integral therewith, a pair of cooperating closures mounted on the continuous rails and free to travel the entire length of the supplemental frame, said closures being provided with continuous marginal grooves adapted to receive said rails and to permit lonour own We have hereto aflixed our signatures in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN F. WEATHERS. ERNEST L. HILL.
