0. H. HOBSON.
LAMP CARRIER POR- MINERS HATS. No. 416,262. Patented Dec, 3, 1889.
W figs-secs, R 1173943161,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. HOBSON, OF MOUNT CARMEL, PENNSYLVANIA.
LAMP-CARRIER FQR MINERS HATS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,262, dated December 3, 1889.
Application filed September 24, 1889. Serial No. 324,888- (No model.)-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. HoBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Carmel, in the county of Northu mberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Carrier for Miners Hats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lamp-carriers for miners hats; and it consists in certain novel features, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved device applied to a hat. Fig. 2 is avertical section of the same, and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail perspective views. The hat A may be of any desired form, and to the front of the hat I secure abase-plate B, which is preferably constructed of sheet metal and leather, and is provided at its upper end with a longitudinal slot 0.
The lamp-holder D is pivotally mounted in the slot 0, and consists of a sheet-metal plate doubled on itself and having its front ends diverging, so as to extend partly around the body of the lamp, and thereby prevent the same from swinging from side to side. \Vithin the lamp-holder I secure a block E, which is arranged slightly in advance of the rear edge of the lamp-holder, and this block is engaged by the hook on the lamp-body.
In practice the base-plate is secured tothe cap by rivets or any other suitable device, and the lamp is engaged in the holder, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2. .The lamp will thus be securely held and will be allowed to swing forward as the miner bends his head, so that it will always be in the desired position, but will be prevented from swinging from side to side.
It will be observed that my device is very simple, and consequently can be manufactured at a small cost, and that it can be applied to any form of hat, and that while I have shown and described it as applied to a hat it may also be applied to a cap.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S.
1. A lamp-carrier consisting of abase-plat-e having a longitudinal slot, and a holder pivoted within said slot and adapted to receive the lamp, and having its front edges diverging to bear against the lamp-body, as setforth.
2. A lamp-carrier consisting of a base-plate provided with a slot, a holder pivoted in the slot and consisting of a plate doubled on itself and having its front edges diverging, so as to extend partially around the body of the lamp, and the block E, secured within the holder, said bloc-k being adapted to be engaged by the hook on the lamp, as set forth.
3. A lamp-holder consisting of a plate doubled on itself and having its edges diverging and adapted to pass on opposite sides of the lamp-body, and a block secured between the branches of the plate and adapted to be engaged by a hook on the lamp-body, as set forth.
4. A lamp-carrier consisting of a base-plate and a holder pivoted thereto and having its front edges diverging to bear against the lampbody, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
7 CHARLES II. HOBSON. Witnesses:
E. E. WHITE, HARRY MCWILLIAMS.
