LOUIS N. CLAYTON, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
BLACKING-BIOX HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,291, dated November 5', 1889.
Application filed December 15, 1888. Serial No. 293,708. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, LOUIS N. CLAYTON, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Blacking-BoX Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is design ed to provide a cheap and convenient article designed to hold firmly a boX of blaeking while the brush is being applied to the blaeking, and by its use avoid the soiling of the hand. 7,
My invention is shown in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my holder with the box of blaeking attached and with a part of the side of the holder and a part of the box and contents broken away, to show more clearly the method of fastening. Fig.2 is a sectional view of my holder, taken longitudinally, and of the box in positionthereon.
In the drawings similar parts are indicated by similar letters of reference.
In Fig. 1,A represents my holder, and B the box. At the end of the holder A is a sharpened point of metal 0. Upon the upper side of the holder I place a rack D, composed of the loop or staple D and the bent central spring D Beneath the holder is shown the fastening-lever E. This lever is pivoted in the holder, and held in place by the catch F. In Fig. 2, E represents this lever pivoted at E and curved and pointed at its upper end E F represents the catch which serves to hold the lever firmly in place.
The operation of my holder is this: Desiring to fasten a box of shoe or other blaeking upon the holder A, I lower the lever E until it is at about right angles to the plane of the holder A. This brings the curved point E of the level-E standing upward from the holder. Having previously with" the sharp point C thrust a hole through the bottom of the box 13, I place this box upon the upper curved end E of the lever E. I then bring the lever up until it engages with the catch E, which holds it in position, and the curved end E binding against the bottom of the box B, holds the box firmly in position on the holder A. The rack D is used for holding a cord or slip of paper, to prevent the soiling of the hand by the spattering of the blaeking when the brush is being charged in the box 13.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A blaeking-box holder composed of the holder A, having pivoted lever E, with curved end E and catch F, as shown and described.
- 2. A blaeking-box holder composed of the holder-A, provided with the point C, and bearing the rack D, and carrying the pivoted lever E, with its catch E, as shown and described.
