ALFRED AUGER, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
PLATE-LIFTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 30, 1909.
Application filed September 1, 1908. Serial No. 451,170.
T 0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALFRED AUG-ER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of vNew Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plate-Lifters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in plate-lifters; and an object of my invention is to provide a plate-lifter which will be simple in construction, comparatively cheap in manufacture and efficient in use.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best inode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure l is a perspective view of my new plate-lifter; Fig. 2 is a plan of the saine; Fig. 3 is a side elevation; and Fig. 4 is a 'section on the line A-A of Fig. l.
The wooden handle-bar a is formed at one end with a handle b and in each of its sides with a slot c. The front holding-portion or stationary holder is formed of a single piece of wire, the middle of which extends transversely beneath the handle-bar at the front end of the latter and is held in place by a suitable staple d. The wire is then bent upwardly and inwardly on each side and enters th'e slots c. The two branches of the wire then extend forwardly in the slots c to the front end of the handle-bar a, where they diverge from each other, as is shown at e in Figs. 1 and 2. The two branches of the wire are next bent downwardly to form the legs f and then rearwardly to form the toes g, which are adapted to lie under the rim of the plate h and support the latter. At the front end of the handle-bar a is provided a wire loop or collar i, which serves to hold the branches e of the front holding-portion in place in the slots c. The rear holding-portion or slidable holder is also made of a single iece of wire, the middle portion of which ies above the handle-bar a and is then bent downwardly and inwardly and enters the slots c formed one on each side ofthe handlebar a. The two branches of the wire extend in the slots c forwardly for a distance, and are then bent outwardly and downwardly to form legs f the 4extremities of which are bent forwardly to form toes g. The latter serve the sanne purpose as the toes g of the front or stationary holder.
One end of a coil-spring 7c is fastened to the top of the handle-bar a, while its other end is fastened to one end of a pull-wire m, the other end of which is formed with a linger-loop a. The end of the pull-wire m which is made fast to the coil-spring 7c is also fastened to the rear or slidable holdenat its mid-portion The pull-wire m extends through the guide-eye o mounted on the top of the handle-bar a.
I claim:
l. A plate-lifter consisting of the combination of a handle-bar formed with a slot in each of its sides; a stationary holder made from one piece of wire the mid-portion of which extends across and is fastened to said handle-bar near its front end; the branches of said wire extending forwardly in said slots to the front end of said handle-bar and then diverging outwardly, each of said branches being next bent downwardly to forni a leg and then rearwardly to form a toe for engagement with `the rim of the plate a slidable holder made from one piece of wire the mid-portion of which extends across said handle-bar and the ends of which extend forwardly one on each side of said handle-bar in one of said slots, each of said ends being further bent first downwardly to form a leg and th en forwardly to form a toe for engagement with the rim of the plate; a pull-wire one end of which is fastened to said slidable holder; and a coil-spring one end of which is fastened to said handle-bar and the other end of which is fastened to said pull-wire.
2. A plate-lifter consisting of the combination of a handle-bar formed with a slot in each of its sides; a stationary holder made from one piece of wire the mid-portion of which extends across and is fastened to said handle-bar near its front end; said wire being bent inwardly to enter said slots on each side of said handle-bar; the two branches of said wire then diver-ging outwardly and each being bent first downwardly to form a leg and then rearwardly to form a toe for engageinent with the rim of the plate; a collar which encircles the two branches of said stationary holder at the front end of said handle-bar to hold said branches in said slots; a slidable holder Inade from one piece of wire the midportion of which extends across said handlebar and the ends of which extend forwardly one on each side of said handle-bar in one of said slots, each of said ends being bent outwardly from its slot, next downwardly to form a leg and then forwardly to form a toe for engagement with the lm of the plate; a l my hand, this 27th day of August, A. D., pull-Wire one end of which is fastened to the 1908, in the presence of the tWo undersigned mid-portion of Said shlddbleV holder; and a Witnesses. coil-spring one end of which is fastened to ALFRED AUGER. ,5 said handle-b a1' an d the other end of Which is Vftnesses:
fastened to said pull-Wire. JESSE B. PATTEE,
n testimony whereof I have hereunto set JOHN W. S. JOYAL.
