TRIMMING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 418,749, dated October 29, 1889.
Application filed August 6, 1889. Serial No. 319,874. (No specimens.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, ENOOH CARRIER, a resident of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trimmings, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to obtain novel and pleasing effects in trimmings.
The invention consists in atrim'ming having projecting loops whose ends are secured to the doubled body of the trimming, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, wherein-f Y Figure l is a face view of a piece of trimming partly finished to which my invention is applied. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same nished, and Fig. 3 is a sectional viewv showing the inner side of the finished trimming.
The trimming A, which may be either knitted or woven, is provided with a series of parallel bars or strips a, Fig. l, that are connected at both their ends with the body of the trimming. In order to give the required finish to the trimming, the trimming is doubled upon itself to bring the part b,with which one end of each bar a connects,upon the part d, with which the other ends of said bars connect;
but in so doubling the trimmings they are displaced laterally, so as, for instance, to bring the point oc on b in contact with the point 'y on d. This lateral folding brings the bars a into form of loops a2 a2, Figs. 2 and 3. The parts b d are now united by stitches f or otherwise. (See Figv.) As the part b is turned downV and carried laterally, as stated, the bars or strips a become slightly twisted, thereby imparting to the nished loops a more pleasing effect than if they were quite fiat.
Having now described my invention, whatI claim isl. A trimming comprising two plies of fabric at its edge and a series of loops projecting therefrom, each loop having one of its ends secured to one of the plies and its other end to the other ply, as set forth.
2. The trimming A, comprising two plies of fabric and having the projecting loops a2, that are twisted throughout their length, each loop being connected at one end to one of the plies and at its other end to the other ply, substantiallyas described.
This specification signed by me this 30th day of July, 1889.
