Description
` A. STURM.
wss-Trimming.
` No. 206,640. Patented July 3o, 1878.
N.PETER8. PHDTO-LITMOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. U C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
AUGUST STURM, OF NFV YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRESS-TRIMMINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 206,640, dated July 30, 1379,; application tiled July 5, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:`
Beit known that I, AUGUST STURM, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement inDress- Trimmin gs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specieation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l represents a face view of my trimming before it is ruffled. Fig. 2 is alike view thereof after it is ruffled. Fig. 3 shows a'modiiieation in the arrangement of the cord.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to trim min gs for ladies7 dresses; and consists in combining with a supporting-fabric a thread or cord, which is united with the fabric by a suitable adhesive substance and provided with loose or pendent loops, whereby I am enabled to produce a very ornamental trimming at low cost.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the supporting-fabric, and b is the thread or cord of my trimming. I bend the thread or cord b in such a manner as to form therein a series of loops, c, and unite the parts d between these loops with the supporting-fabric A by means of paste or cement, so that the loops remain loose. The thread or cord b can be so arranged that the loops cproject beyond the edge of the supportiiig-fabric, as shown in Figs. l and 2, or so that the loops are within the edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 3.
After the thread or cord b has been applied to the supporting-fabric the latter is, by preference, rufiled or plaited, as represented in Figs. 2 and 3.
In practice, the thread or cord b is applied to the supportiiig-fabric by a machine suitably constructed, and which will form the subjectanatter of a separate application for a patent.
It Will be seen that to unite the thread or cord b with the supporting-fabric A by sewing, and at the same time form therein the loose loops c, would be exceedingly difficult, and would render my trimming very expensive, while by using an adhesive substance for this purpose the least amount of labor is involved, and hence I obtain a very ornamental trimming at low cost.
My present invention is an improvement ou that class of dresstrimmings for which Letters Patent of the United States were granted to me October 24, 1876, No. 183,722, and lV .distinctly disclaim everything shown and described in my said patent.
In some cases I bend the thread or cord l to form a double row otl loops projecting in opposite directions.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to seein-1l by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article ot manufacture, a dresstrimming consisting of a support-ing fabric and a thread or fabric secured thereto and provided with loose or pendent loops, the sup porting-fabric being ruftied or frilled, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of June, 1878.
AUGUST STURM. [L. s]
