CROCHET OR LACE HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,215, dated J une 28, 1898.

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM OSCAR HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Crochet or Lace Holders, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1

This invention has for its object to provide a simple, light, convenient, and inexpensive holder for lacework and the like which will allow a maximum length of lace of uniform width to be worked on or over it by the aid of a crochet-needle or otherwise and which will also permit the finished lace to be easily and quickly removed without disarranging or unduly stretching it or otherwise injuring it.

The invention will first be described and will then be particularly defined in the claim hereinafter set forth.

Reference is made to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which similar letters indicate like parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly inlongitudinal section at the joint, of a preferred form of lace-holder, a portion of the lace being shown thereon; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one separated part of the holder.

My invention may have various embodiments bringing its structure within the terms of the claim hereinafter set forth. I prefer, however, to make the holder of two separable U-shaped frames A B, each formed by bending a suitable wire or rod, the bend or crosshead of each frame being indicated at C in the drawings. The limbs or sides of these frames A B are adapted for joining at the ends by means of dowel-pins b, fixed in the ends of the limbs of one frame and entering recesses provided for them in the limbs of the other frame, as clearly shown in the drawings.

A distinguishing feature of my invention consists in making the holder in separable end-joined parts having like exterior width throughout their entire length, whereby lace of uniform width may be produced upon the holder for practically its entire length, and may then be easily removed by separating the end-joined partsof the holder and without unduly stretching or otherwise injuring the lace fabric.

I prefer to make the holder of the two separable end-joined rod-frames,each having two side limbs, the outer edges of which encompass a uniform transverse width or space for practically the entire length of the holder and to connect these rod-frames by dowel-pins, as shown and described, this'form of holder being at once light, inexpensive, and convenieut to use and occupying very small space when out of use.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A crochet or lace holder comprising two U- shaped, end-joined and. separable rod-frames, each having two side limbs the outer edges of which encompass a uniform transverse width or space for practically the entire length of the holder, thereby permitting a maximum length of uniformly-widelace to be produced on the holder and afterward easily removed therefrom; one frame having end dowel-pins and the other frame having end recesses receiving said pins, substantially as described.
