Be it known that I, JOHN BoDENsTAB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding` parts.

My invention relates to curtain -iixtures, and the object thereof is to provide a pole or support for curtains, portires, or similar articles so constructed that a curtain o r similar article may be suspended directly therefrom, and the means by which it is attached thereto being concealed from view; and with these curtain pole or support; Fig. 2,

and otherimportant ends under consideration the invention contemplates a divided tubular pole one part of which is hinged to the other, and within or beneath said hinged portion is arranged the means by which a curtain or other article may be suspended therefrom.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part,and in which- Figure l is a front elevation of my improved a similar view thereof, showing the hinged section raised preparatory to attaching a curtain or other article thereto; Fig. 3, a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 a transverse section on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.

In the practice of my invention I employ a pole A, consisting of two portions B and C, and the part or portion B is preferably iiat on its front side and circular or convex on its rear side, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and provided with cylindrical end pieces E, and each of the end pieces is also provided with ornamental balls or caps F, formed therein or secured thereto.

The front iiat surface of the back portion B is longitudinally and. centrally upholstered, as shown at G, or provided with a strip of textile material secured thereto, beneath whichis inserted cotton, wool, or similar material.

The part C is hinged to the part B at the top thereof and is semicircular in cross-section, and the connection between said parts is such that when they are folded together, as shown in Figs. l, 3, and 4, there will be a longitudinal slot or opening between said parts B and C in the bottom of the pole, which extends throughout the length thereof or throughout the length ofthe hinged cover or part C, and this slot communicates with the central bore or cavity formed by the hinged part or cover C, which is semicircular in cross-section o both of its surfaces.

When it is desired to connect a curtain, portire, or other article with my improved pole, the hinged portion C is raised to the position shown in Fig. 2, and the end of the curtain or other article is pinned to the upholstery connected with the flat surface of the part B, a pin K being shown in Fig. 3 inserted through said upholstery to indicate the manner of connecting the curtain therewith.

The hinged part C may be secured in position by passing a bolt L through the back B', the end of which is provided with a screwthread, as shown in Fig. 4, and adapted to be screwed into the hinged cap or cover C, as is also shown in said figure, and in case this device is employed I prefer that it be passed as nearly' as possible through the middle of the pole, as indicated by the dotted line 4 4 of Fig. l, in which event the upholstery connected with the back portion will-be divided centrally, as shown at M, Fig. 2, so as to admit of passing the bolt L therethrough.

It will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation, and it will also be apparent that the pole and the ends thereof may be ornamented in any desired manner and made as attractive as desired, and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore reserve the right to make such'alterations and changes as fairly come within the scope thereof.

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In a curtain-pole, the combination of a back part B, convex on its outer rear side and flat on its inner front side, the cylindrical IOO end pieces E, the ornamental Caps F, ai Se1nicircular, hollow front part C hinged at the top to the upper edge of the inner front side of the hack part, and an upholstered facing on the dat inner front side of the back part, substantially as described. v
