Description

Patented Nov. 23, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention provides a novel frame construction for crocheting and the like and has a pair of elongated, spaced, parallel work rods around which the yarn is adapted to be Worked, in order to provide therebetween a woven section for use in the making of afghans, blankets, sweaters, and the like.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a rectangular frame having a permanent spacer link connecting like ends of the work rods to each other and a detachable spacer link removably secured to the opposite ends of the work rods in order to maintain the work rods in parallel position during the work, and to thereafter enable the work strip to lbe readily removedfrom the work rods.
The above and still further objects of my invention will become apparent from the following detailed specication, appended claim, and attached drawings.
Referring to the drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of my novel device, some parts being broken away;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the detachable spacer link removed from the work rods.
Referring with greater particularity to the drawings, the numerals I and 2 indicate a pair of elongated spaced parallel work rods which are connected at one end by a permanent spacer link 3. A detachable spacer link' 4 has a pair of spaced vapertures 5 therein which are of a size to snugly receive the -free ends of the spacer rods I and 2 and to hold the rods in parallel relationship during the work, as indicated in Fig. 1.
As indicated above, one method of using my novel crochet frame is to first pass the yarn a, about the work rods I' and 2 and thereafter tieing a knot, as indicated by the letter b in Fig. 1. Thereafter, a work piece c may be formed by progressively passing the yarn a over the Work rods I and 2 and forming a crochet stitch d intermediate the work rods I and 2 each time the yarn is passed over one of the work rods. When the work piece or strip c is of a desired length, it may be removed from the work rods I and 2 by rst removing the detachable spacer link 4 and thereafter sliding the work piece c off their free ends. Such work piece c may either be used alone, if any utility is found for it, or it may be joined with others vby crocheting, stitching, or the like to form such articles as afghans, blankets, or sweaters.
Myinvention has been thoroughly tested and has been found to be completely successful for the accomplishment of the above objects.
.What I claim is:
In a crochet frame, a pair of elongated spaced parallel work rods, a permanent spacer link connecting one end of each work rod to a like end of the other thereof, and a detachable spacer link on the opposite ends of said rods, said detachable spacer link having a pair of spaced openings adapted to snugly receive the free ends of sai-d rods.
