UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM A. FIRSTBROOK, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
SEALING DEVICE FOR HASP-FASTENERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 406,895, dated July 16, 1889.
Serial No. 292,368. (No model.)
To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,WILLIAM ASHALL FIRST- BROOK, manufacturer, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and Improved Sealing Device for Hasp-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design simple means by which the hasp may be sealed to its staple or swivel-plate; and it consists, essentially, of a staple or swivelplate having a curved extension formed on it to correspond and lie in contact with the curved portion of the hasp, a h ole being bored through the hasp and through the curved extension of the plate to permit the insertion of a wire provided with an ordinary seal.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved seal-locked haspfastener applied to a box or packing-case. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail of the staple or swivel-plate.
In the drawings, A is an ordinary hasp secured to the box in the ordinary way and having a curved end a. The plate B is also secured to the box in the ordinary way, and is provided with a swivelfastening O, which extends through a slot made in the hasp A, and is used in the ordinary way for fastening the hasp A.
Instead of the swivel-fastening C, an ordinary staple may of course be used. I) is an extension-piece formed on the plate B and curved upwardly or outwardly to fit against and correspond with the curved end a of the hasp A. A hole 0 is made through the curved end a of the hasp A and through the curved extension-piece b of the plate B, and through this hole a wire D is inserted and locked by means of an ordinary seal E of lead or other suitable material.
Owing to the extreme simplicity of my device it has become already very popular, although but recently placed upon the market.
That I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the hasp having slot, as described, and curved end a, formed with hole a, of the swivel-plate B, having curved extension-piece 1), formed with hole, as described, the swivel fastening on the plate B and extending through said slot in the hasp, and wire through the coincident holes in the curved end a and extension h, and provided with a seal, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
