E. H. GEISLER 8: M. SIMPSON.
OALF WEANER.
No. 403,186. Patented May 14, 1889.

PETERS. Phulo-Lhhogmphor. Washington. 0. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST H. GEISLER, OF DESHLER, NEBRASKA, AND MOSES SIMPSON, OF MONDEN, KANSAS.
CALF-WEAN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 403,186, dated May 14, 1889.
Application filed August 1, 1888. Serial No. 281,632. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, ERNEST H. GEISLER, of Deshler, in the county of Thayer and State of Nebraska, and lVIOSES SIMPSON, of Monden, in the county of Republic and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oalf-Weaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in calf- Weaners; and it consists in a weaner formed of wire and provided with prongs, and, further, in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the weaner, and Fig. 2 is a detail view of the front end thereof.
The weaner, as shown, comprises side rods or wires, A, the crown rod or wire B, and the connecting wires or rods 0, the side wires being extendedfrom the lower ends of wires 0, and loops, forming eyes, being made at D at the juncture of wires A and O. The wires 0 O form an arch, and the upper end of the crown-Wire B is twisted into connection with the wires 0, preferably by forming the latter with an eye or loop, E, at the upper central portion of the arch and bending the wire B into connection therewith.
At a point, F, near their forward ends the wires A B are united and are extended beyond the said point F, forming prongs a a and b. It is preferred to unite the wires at F by twisting, as shown.
The parts A A, B, and C form, as will be seen, a halter-like frame which will be strong, easily applied, and durable. Such frame can also be cheaply made, as it requires only two lengths of wire, one length being bent and looped to form the parts 0 O, A A, and a a, and the other to form the part B, with eX- tended portion 12. In connection with such halter-frame We provide a fastening formed, preferably, of a link, G, connected with one of eyes D and arranged to engage the other, so
the weaner can be easily and securely fastened in place and conveniently removed when desired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new isv 1. A weaner, substantially as described, comprising a number of wire rods bent to form a halter-like frame and united at a point near their forward ends, such wires being extended forward beyond the point of their connection to form prongs, substantially as set forth.
2. A weaner, substantially as described, consisting of a wire bent to form the connecting-rods O and the side wires, A, and provided with a fastening arranged to connect the 0pposite side rods at the juncture of same with the connecting-rods O, and the crown rod or wire B, united at its rear end with the rods 0 at the crown of the arch 0, formed thereby, the said rods A and B being twisted together at a point near their forward ends and extended beyond said twist, forming prongs or barbs, substantially as set forth.
3. The herein-described weaner, consisting of the wire halter-like frame having its side and connection bars looped, forming eyes, and provided with the fastening-link held to one of said eyes and arranged to engage the other eye, substantially as set forth.
4. The improved calf-'weaner consisting of the side wires or rods having the connectingrods bent therefrom and looped, forming eyes, the fastening-link connected with one of said eyes and arranged to engage the other, and the crown-rod connected with the connectingrods, the crown-rod and side rods being twisted together and extended, forming prongs, sub stantially as set forth.
ERNEST H. GEISLER. MOSES SIMPSON.
