To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G; ROBBINS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bromfield, in the county of Hamilton and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Pads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figuresof reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in harness-pads.

The object of my invention is to provide a pad which will readily adjust itself to the part of the animal upon which it is worn, and is provided with openings to permit a circulation of air under the pad, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

My invention consists in the special construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pad constructedin accordance with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Figs. 3 and 4 are longitudinal and transverse sections, taken through the lines 00 0c and y y of Fig. 2. p

The body of my improved pad is made up of two blocks, A A, of rigid material, which are cut away at their opposing edges, so that when they are placed together there will be formed between the blocks an opening, at. These blocks A A are held to each other by bands B andB of spring metal,which normally hold the blocks at about right angles with each other, to permit said blocks to be pressed apart or together to assume the proper position to snugly fit the body of the animal. Around the upper edges of the blocks is secured a cover of leather or textile fabric, 0,

secured to the blocks, which are preferably made of wood, and between the under sides of the blocks and this leather is placed asuitable stuffing of hair, wool, or cotton. Centrally, or immediately under the opening a,

between the blocks A, the leather or cover is provided with a series of perforations, d, and the outer leather or flap, E, which is secured to the sides of the blocks, is also provided with perforations.

A pad constructed as hereinbefore described 5 5 will be cheap, self-adj usting, and will permit air to circulate under the same to prevent sores or galls, and will assist in healing the same when formed.

Having thus described my invention,what I 6o claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A harness-pad consisting of two rigid blocks having their inner meeting edges cut away,

bent spring-metal bands for connecting the cut-away edges of the blocks,'a single cushion covering the inner faces of both blocks, and

provided at the center with ventilating-openings, and a cover secured to the outer faces of the blocks and provided at the center with WILLIAM G. ROBBINS.
