G. DANNENMAN.
HORSE COLLAR.
N0. 247,618. Patented Sept. 27,1881.
live @7150? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GOTTLIEB DANNENMAN, OF NATGHEZ, MISSISSIPPI.
HORSE-COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,618, dated September 27, 1881,
' Application filed September21,188 0. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB DANNENMAN, of Natchez, in the county of Adams and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to horse-collars, the object being to simplify the construction, reduce the cost of manufacture, and produce an efficient device for the purpose of peculiar conformation.
- The invention is designed as an improvement upon the device shown in Patent No. 40,582, of 1863, in which two thicknesses of sole-leather, an open filled roll, and two open pads are stitched together. I find that this stitching is not only very difficult, but that the breast-bearing should be of softer material than soleleather. I also find that, in order to keep the hames properly and reliably in place, the intermediate roll should extend entirely around the collar, in contradistinction to separate duplicate side pads.
In carryin gout my invention I employ a flexible covering, which I fill loosely with any proper material-such as hair or the like-and stitch the edges together, as shown at a, after which, by proper manipulation, I force a proper quantity of the filling into the lower part and stitch through the bag from side to side, care being taken not to draw the surfaces together, but to leave aslight space between the sides of the cover, as shown in Fig. 3. The filling being again manipulated, a similar row of stitching is placed above. These rows of loose stitching form the collar into two large rolls and one intermediate smaller roll, the lower one acting as a breast-cushion,the upper one as the neckpad and hame-holder, and the intermediate one as the name-cushion.
In the figures of the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent opposite sides of my improved horse-collar, and Fig. 3 a transverse section.
In the drawings, A represents the breast and shoulder cushion, loosely stitched at b; B, the intermediate cushion or roll, loosely stitched at b; and B the neck-roll, as shown.
No claim is laid to the manner or process of forming the collar, and nothing in this application seeks to cover separate rolls or pads, as shown in the patent hereinbef'ore cited.
What I claim as new is- The horse-collar herein described, consisting of the shoulder-cushion A, neck-roll B, and intermediate roll, B, formed of a single bag properly filled and loosely stitched at b b, as and forthe purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GO'ITLIEB DANNENM AN.
