COMBINATION-TOOL.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,690, dated April 2, 1889.

Application filed December 3, 1888. Serial No. 292,468. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARDEN D. KIMBALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miles, in the county of Jackson and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to combination-tools, and has for its object to provide a tool for general use that can be conveniently carried in the pocket, and which will be simple, cheap, and compact, and which can be used for eX- tracting corks, extracting tacks, opening envelopes, sawing wood, driving screws, and which will comprise a pair of pinchers and plumbers pliers.

' The improvement consists of the novel features, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figurel is a front View of my tool, showing it closed; Fig. 2, a similar view showing it opened; Fig. 3, an edge View; Fig. 4, a front view of one of the levers of the pinchers, and Fig. 5 a front View of the other lever.

The tool is composed of the three levers A,

B, and O, which are pivoted together near their front ends by the pivot a. The levers A and B have their front ends curved to form jaws D and D, respectively, the ends of the jaws being fiat to form pinchers, and the curved portions which form the pliers having teeth on their inner sides, which bite into the article grasped between them to obtain a firm grip. The longer ends or handles of the levers A and B' are flat, being thin and wide. The inner edge, 01, of the handle A is sharpened to provide an envelope-opener and paper-cutter, and the inner edge, d, of the handle B is provided with teeth to obtain a saw. The end of the handle B is notched to provide the tack-extractor (1 The lever O has a screwdriver, E, at its front end and a corkscrew, E, at its rear end.

In practice, to use either the screw-driver or the corkscrew, the levers A and B are opened to form handles to be grasped to facilitate the rotating of the said screw-driver or corkscrew. When using the tool as a pair of pinchers or pliers, the lever O can be turned at right angles to the levers A and B, and will serve as a lever to assist in rotating the tool.

The hereinbeforedescribed combinationtool, composed of the three levers A, B, and O, pivotally connected together, the levers A and B, having the curved jaws D and D, respectively, the lever A, having the cutting-edge d, and the lever 13, having the saw-edge d and the tack-extractor (V, and the lever C, having the screw-driver E at one end and the corkscrew E at its other end, substantially as shown.
