Description

M. WOJDACZ.
COMPOUND TOOL.
APPLICATION FILED APR. I6, 1919.
INVENTOR M27 Wajaa cz.
ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 24,1920.
MIKE WOJDACZ, OF NEWTON UPPER FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMPOUND TOOL.
Specification of Letters I'atent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
Application filed April 16, 1919. Serial No. 290,586.
closed or folded position in a novel manner.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which j I Figure 1 is a side elevational View showing an implement made in accordance with the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the lock or engaging means by which the handles may be held in rigid relation. V 3
Referring to the drawings, the implement will be seen to be comprised of two jaw portions respectively 10 and 11, joined by a central rivet 12, and having formed in the jaw elements sharply'beveled edges 14 and 15, adapted when the handles are closed, to sever wires or like articles entered there: between. j
Farther out upon the jaws 10 and 11 are concaved recesses containing serrations or teeth 16 and 17, acting cooperatively, and used in grasping cylindrical objects, such as pipes, and the like whereby they may be turned in the manner of a pipe tong, while at the outer end of the jaws are other serrations 18 and 19, adapted to act as pincers for obvious purposes.
Formed with the j aw element 10 is a shank 20, terminating in a hammer head 21, while oppositely, extending from the jaw element 11, is an extension 23 terminating in a jaw 24, the extension'having a trans-- verse slot receptive of a bar 25 carrying a movable jaw 26 cooperative with the fixed jaw 24:, the inner edge of the bar 24 being provided with rack teeth 27 operated by a screw 28, the convolutions of which are corrugated or knurled so as to be easily manipulated by thethumb and fingers of an operator, whereby the movable jaw may be moved to or from the fixed jaw 24 in a well known manner.
Extending rearwardly from the pivotal point 12, are the handle elements 30 and 31, the former of which contains an open slot 32, at its outer end, and in which is pivoted, on the pin 33, a lever bar 34, the pivoted end of which is reduced to properly fit the slot 32 in the handle 30, while the head 36, forming a termination of the bar 34, is receivable in a transverse slot 37, formed in the opposite handle element 31.
The reduced neck portion 38 of the bar, is receivable in a slot '39, formed between extensions 40 of the handle element 31, the head 36 entering the arcuate recess 37, thereby holding the ends of the handles in firm engagement, so that when the implement is used as a hammer, that the elements 30 and 31 act together as a handle.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a neat and comprehensive implement has been disclosed, capable of many uses for an ordimechanic. I aving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combined implement of the character described, comprising a pair of jaws, a pivot connection therebetween, and handles extending oppositely from said jaws, one of said handles having a recessed terminal, a lever bar pivoted with one of its ends in the mentioned recess, the pivoted end of said lever bar being'reduced to properly fit the recess in said handle, concavo-convex longitudinal recesses extending in from the end of the opposite handle element, a transverse slot formed in connection with said concavoconvex recesses adapted to receive the reduced portion of said lever bar, oppositely disposed arcuate recessses formed in the free end of said lever bar for forming a head exterior of said recessses adapted to engage within said concavo-convex recesses,-and a reduced portion formed between said head and the remainder of said lever bar adapted to engage with the transverse slot formed in the last named handle bar.-
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature,
MIKE WOJDACZ.
