separate from the bedstead, I provide two T aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VIOLA FITZ, a citizen more of such legs upon the inner side thereof, of the United States, residing at Richmond, as shown in Fig. 2. The end sections, a a, in the county of Vayne and State of Indiand side section, a, and legs I) of the crib I ana, have invented certain new and useful prefer to hinge or pivot to the side rails of 55 Improvements in Crib Attachments for Bedthe bottom a whereby when the crib is not steads; and I do hereby declare the following in use it may be detached from the bed and to be full, clear, and exact description of the the end and side sections as well as the legs invention, such as will enable others skilled folded upon the bottom, so that the crib in its in the art to which it appertains to make and folded condition will occupy but a very small 60 use the same, reference being had to the acspace, and can be set away beneath the bedcompanying drawings, and to letters or figstead or elsewhere until further used. nres of reference marked thereon, which form To provide for the ready attachment of the a part of this specification. crib to and its detachment from a bedstead,
My invention relates to certain new and I employ the following means: Upon the rail 65 useful improvements in crib attachments for c, on the inner side of the crib and at either bedsteads, and has for its object to furnish end, is provided a hinge-strap, d, one section an attachment of this kind which can be reador leaf of which is screwed to the rail. 0, while ily attached to or detached from a bedstead; the other section or leaf is made longer and which can be used as a crib separately from fits into a keeper, 6, secured to the side rail, 70
the bedstead when so desired; which can be B, of the bedstead. folded compactly together, so as to occupy The keepers e are secured upon the inner but little space when not in use, and which side of the rail B, so that when the leaves are may be lengthened, when desired, to adapt it fitted therein the rail 0 of the crib will then for use by larger children than could otherrest upon the upper edge of the side rail, B, 75 wise occupy the same; and the invention conand thus serve to firmly support the inner sists in the construction of the crib, substanside of the crib, in which arrangement the tially as hereinafter fully described and as legs for supporting the inner side of the crib set forth in the claim. could obviously be dispensed with.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is For locking the side and end sections of the 80 an elevation of the attachment, showing the crib together when raised to the position manner of attaching it to the side rail of a shown in Fig. 1that is to say, when the crib bedstead, and showing in dotted lines one of is to be usedany suitable means may be emthe end sections swung down into a horizon ployed, though I prefer to use the means tal position. Fig. 2 is a transverse section shown in Fig. 3, which consist of a slotted 85 taken through one of the hinge straps or plate, f, secured to the upper end of the end leaves which serve to attach the crib to the posts, a of the side section, a, upon the inbedstead. Fig. 3 is a detail isometric view, ner side thereof, and a headed pin or lug, f, on an enlarged scale, of a portion of a side projectingfrom the top rail of each of the end and end section of the crib, showing themcans sections, a a, which pins or lugs will, when 0 for locking said sections together when in the the end sections are raised, enter the slot in position shown in 1. the plates f, and thus serve to hold said end A indicates the crib having the end secand side sections securely together.
tions, a a, side section, a, and bottom a I prefer to so hinge or pivot one or both of B indicates the side rail of a bedstead with the end sections of the crib to the longitudi- 95 which the attachment is to be used, and to nal rails of the bottom that it may be folded which side rail the crib is attached. inward upon said bottom and outward there- For the purpose of providing a support for from, as shown in dotted lines, 1, and the outer side of the crib, I provide legs b, when in the latter position will be supported one at either end, and,to adapt the crib for use by the end cross-rails of the crib-bottom, 10o
forming practically a continuation or extension of said bottom, and adapting the crib for use by larger children.
Having described my invention, what I claim isv The combination of a crib having a complete set of supporting-legs pivoted thereto, leaves hinged to the side rail of said crib, and a bedstead provided with keepers on the in- 10 ner side of the side rail thereof, whereby the crib may be attached to and detached from the bedstead and used either in connection with or independently of the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in I 5 presence of two witnesses.
