Description

UNITED [STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
SWEAT PAD FASTENlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,171, dated December 25, 1888.
Application filed October 81, 1888. Serial No. 289,599. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sweat-Pad Fastenings; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a top viewshowing a portion of a horse-collar with the pad attached by its fastening. Fig. 2 shows an edge view of the pad and its fastening and a cross-section of the portion of collar. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the two portions of the fastening. Figs. 5 and G are modifications of the two portions of the fastening.
This invention has relation to devices for fastening sweat-pads to the collars of harness; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of devices, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a form of pad, and B is the fastener, which is adapted to be adjusted so that it can be readily applied to a collar of any size.
The fastener consists of a C-spring, D, which is designed to clasp the small roll of the collar in attaching the pad in position 1111- der the body side. The spring is made in broad form, so that it will not injure the material of the collar, and is provided with two series of apertures, e 6, arranged side by side at its inner end. This C-springis connected to the pad by the pad catch or fastening F, which consists of an elongated flat body portion, g, having rivet-seats h h at its ends, and between said rivet seats two catch hooks or prongs, k is, which project from the pad and are designed to engage the apertures e e of the Cspring. These catch hooks or prongs 7e 7e terminate in free or headed ends, and are designed to allow the C-sprin g to be readily removed for readjustment when the collar to which the pad is to be applied requires such action.
I am well aware that it is not new to provide a sweat-pad with a fastening whereby it can be attach ed to a collar, and therefore I do not claim such device broadly.
hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pad catch or fastening having a body portion, g, provided with rivet-seats, an d catch hooks or prongs having free or headed ends, in combination with a removable and adj ustable C-spring having a series of apertures adapted to engage said catch hooks or prongs, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER.
