UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
SWEAT PAD FASTEN ER.
SBECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 454,762, dated June 23, 1891. Application filed December 29, 1890. Serial No. 376,074. lNo model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Akron,in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain newand useful Improvements in Sweat-Pad Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of part of a horse-collar and hame, showing the application of the pad-fastener thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective viewof the fastener; and Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, partly in section.
This invention has relation to sweat-pad fasteners for horse-collars; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a spring-metal band or collarhook, provided at one end for means of attachment to the pad and having its opposite end laterally notched,as at b, to receive and secure the flexible strap 0, attached thereto by means of its slot or loop d. Forward of the notches b the collar-hook is of a concavoconvex form, as shown at c, with its edges of a rounded or beveled contour to permit the easy adjustment thereover of the loop or slot in the strap 0.
The strap 0 is preferably made of rawhide and aids in retaining the pad-fastener in position by the pressure of the hames on said strap between the fore roll f and the large roll 9 0f the collar. This construction is designed to overcome the difficulty of detaching the hook and pad from the collar during cold weather when mittens are Worn, for it is obvious that the flexible end isespecially adapted to be grasped by the fingers in order to release the hook from its clasp around the roll. The convexity e of the collar-hook is adapted to bear against the face of the strap, and owing to its conformation avoids all ab: rupt angles or edges which would tend to wear of said strap. Rawhide is selected for this strap on account of its toughness and its being least liable to give at the point of attachment to the collar-hook, at the same time its flexibility being sufficient to accomplish the purpose for which it is designed.
What I claim as my invention is- The sweat pad fastener comprising the spring-metal band or collar-hook adapted to be secured to the pad, at one end, and near its opposite end provided with lateral opposite notches b, said band formed with a head forward of said notches having the concave upper surface and the rounded or beveled edges, in combination with a rawhide-strap having a slot or loop adapted to be passed over said rounded edge concave portion and engage said notches, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER.
