GHURN ATTACHMENT.
Patented Oct. 30
INVENTORS ffl ;IT.NESSES HARRY H. LOTI-I AND CHRISTIAN ZIEGLER, OF WAIAKONETA, OHIO.
QHIURN ATTAGHEVIENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,045, dated October 30, 1888.
Application filed July 10, 1888. Serial No. 279,537. (No model.)
To rtZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HARRY H. LO'lI-I and CHRISTIAN ZIEGLER, citizens of the United States, and residents of Vapakoneta, in the county of Auglaize and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churn Attachments; and We do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is arepreseetation of this invention in vertical section; and Fig. 2 is a front View, a part of the dash-rod being broken away.
This invention has relation to churn attachments; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of devices, hereinafter set forth, and pointedput in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates an ordinary churn, and B the cover thereof, having the usual central opening, 0, for the dash-rod D.
E is a spring ring or hook extending around the upper edge of. the churn and having its ends lapping, as at F, and provided with a screw-fastening, G, which is adjustable, a series of openings,h, being provided in the under lap to engage the screw-fastening. In this manner the hoop can be adjusted to suit churns of different size, and when in position can be fastened by turning up the screw, which is designed to extend through the openings h in the under lap to engage the churn-body. To this hoop are secured the straps or feet is k of the standard L, which supports the driving mechanism, and said feet are preferably braced, as at m. The standard is provided with a journal, n, for the crown-wheel H, which is the driving-wheel, its cranlehandle being indicated at K.
In the standard is formed a seat, 8, for the shaft of the pinion and crank-wheel N, to the wrist-pin of the latter of which is connected the pitman It, which is pivoted to the dash-rod holder S. This holder is provided with an opening at 12, through which the dashrod extends, said holder being fastened, after proper adjustment, to the dash rod by means of a thumb-screw, a.
In the upper end of the standard is made an aperture or seat, b, to hold the upper guide, Z, of the dash-rod, which is adj nstable and held in position by a set-screw, I), being read ily moved in its seat I), so as to extend more or less from the standard in order to bring it vertically in line with the central aperture, 0, of the churn-cover.
Having described this invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a churn attachment, the combination, with the hoop having the lapped ends and the series of openings in the under lap, the screwfastening, the standard attached to said hoop having the aperture 12, the crank-wheel,and the driving mechanism, of the adjustable dasherrod holder having the opening, the dasher-rod, the thumb-screw a, the pitinan connecting the holder to the crank-wheel, and the adjustable upper guide seated in the aperture of the standard, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
