HEATING GAS BUENEE.
No. 390,352. Patented 001;. 2, 188 8.
INVENTOR W1) BY m 1 ATTOR S.
WITNESSES VNIT'ED STATES PATET Fries.
ALBERT J. DOTY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE GOODWIN GAS STOVE AND METER COMPANY, OF
SAME PLACE.
HEATING GAS BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,352, dated Qctober 2, 1888.
Application filed Marl-1126, 1887. Serial No. 232,517.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. Dor of Philadelphia. in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in HeatingGas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a part IO of a heating gas burner constructed according to my improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the burnercap, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the disk of which the burner-top is formed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- 55 sponding parts in all the views.
In practice it has been ascertained that the best form for an orifice for burning a mixture of gas and air is an oblong slit; but in heating gas-burners as usually constructed it is expensive and difiicult to form suitable slits in the process of castiiiig or by means of sawing.
The object of my invention is to cheaply produce a heating gas-burner top having a series of narrow radial slits for the escape of gas for burning.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as herein after fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention I take a disk, A, of sheetiron or other suitable material, and form in the edge thereof flaring slits a at equal distances apart around the circu inferonce of the disk, the slits extending inward from the periphery of the disk a distance equal to the required length of the slit in the finished burner. I then, by means of suitable dies, swage up the disk so as to cause that portion containing the slits to be beveled, as shown in (No model.)
case it is desired to attach a plate to the top of the burner, or if for any reason a plane surface of the disk is required, I leave the center of the disk flat.
A The casting 13, forming the body of the burner, is of the usual shape, having the gas and air passage 0 turned upwardly at right angles at its extremity and surrounded by a conical flange, (I, having at its periphery a lip, e, for receiving the edge ofthe disk A, as shown in Fig.1.
The disk A is centrally apertured, and secnred to the casting B by a bolt, j, which extends downward through the bottom of the casting.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The herein-described gas-burner, consisting of the body B, having the air and gas passage 0 turned upwardly at its extremity, and pro vided with the conical flange (Z, surrounding the upwardly-turned end of the said passage 0, and having the lip e, the sheet-metal burnertop A, having substantially a concave-convex form and provided with a series of slits, a, in its downwardly-inclined rim, and the boltf, for securing the top to the body, substantially as herein shown and described.
ALBERT J. DOTY.
