Description

(No Model.) I n P. KOTTGEN.
V BOTTLE STOPPER. No. 889,707. Petented Sept. 18, 1888.
N. PETERS, Pholu-Umnmphar. Wishlnflurl. D. C.
UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFIcs.
PAUL KGTTGEN, OF BERG-GLADBAGH, NEAR COLOGNE, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,707, dated September 18, 1888.
Application filed July 26, 1888. Serial No. 281,134. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL KoTTeEN, a subjeet of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Berg-Gladbach, near Cologne, Prussia,Ger-
'many, have invented certain new and useful which .similar letters denote similar parts throughout the different figures.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved bottle-stopper fitted to a bottle when open. Fig. 2 is aside view of the same open. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same shut. Fig. 4 is a side view of the same when pressed air-tight in the neck of the bottle by the action of the bayonet joint.
The stopper consists of a how, a a, which has a flat plate, A, on the top, to which is secured an elastic washer, f, which may bemade from india-rubber, cork, or other suitable substance riveted or screwed to the plate A. The bow a is provided with pins 1) b on the lower ends of the arms, which are guided in the slots S S in the neck of the bottle. Under the head 0 of the bottle is a ring, it, which can revolve round the neck of the bottle, the ring it being provided with two diagonal slits, M, and the vertical slits g g. The ring h can be formed out of two halves, screwed or otherwise fastened together, or can be made from one piece.
The fastening of the stopper in the bottle is as follows: The bow a a is pressed down, as shown in Fig. 3, the pins b I) being led into the slits g gof the ringh, while the washerf comes over the mouth of the bottle. The ring h is then turned from the right to the left in the direction of the arrow, Figs. 3, 4, and the pins 1) b,being guided in the slits it',are forced down on account of the wedge or screw shape of the said slits i i, and so is the plate A, and the washer f forced tight down on the mouth of the bottle, as seen in Fig. 4.
To open the bottle, all that is necessary is to turn the ring it in the contrary direction, and when the slits g 9 come opposite the pins b b the bow or a and plate A, with the washer f, can be lifted up, as seen in Fig. 2., and the same turned over to the side in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2.
The bow or, plate A, and washerf are held to the neck of the bottle by the pins 11 b in theslots S S, and so prevented from falling off the bottle and being lost.
Having now fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A bottle-fastener consisting of the hoop a a,
having the plate A on top, and provided with the pins b b on the lower ends of the same, and washer f, in combination with slots S S in the neck of the bottle, and ring h, with diagonal slits i z and vertical slits g g, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL KorToEn.
