To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN DANNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes- Racks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in clothes-racks; and it consists in the hereinafter-described construction and combination of parts set forth in the claims.

Figure 1 is an isometrical view of aclothesrack illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a section. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the hook. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the end piece, looking from the rear.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.

For the purpose of this application my invention, as illustrated by Fig. l of the drawings, consists of a clothes-rack in the con struction of which there are used bars A and B, secured in parallel relation by the metal end pieces, 0, and having metal hook-supports D placed at such intervals as may be desired, and the nunlber of rows of hooks may be determined by the length of the end pieces, 0, and the additional numbers of the bars B.

The bars A and B may be made of any suit able material, preferably of hard wood, the bar B having at desired intervals transverse grooves, as E, and about central thereto, and below the grooves E, perforations F, in which the bottom pivot, G, of the hook-support D is pivotally secured.

The upper bar, A, is provided with perforations H at intervals to correspond with the perforations F in the bar B, in which the upflange, K, against which the hook L may restwhen folded, the object of which is to prevent the hook striking against and disfiguring the wall, and to support the hooks in position when folded for packing for transportation.

The end pieces, O, are made in pairs and provided with end sockets, M, in which the bars A and B are secured by the screw N, in the manner shown. The end pieces are so formed as to conceal the end of the bars, and may be used as a means of ornamentation.

The object of the groove E is to provide a support for the hook, by which the hook may be held in a rigid outwardlyprojecting position, and prevented from swinging or moving away from the hand whenin the act ofplac- 6o ing some article on the hook, and to fold the hooks it is only necessary to raise the lower end of the hook-support and the hook 0 out of the groove E and turn it in the frame, as shown by the folded hook in the right-hand end of Fig. 1.

The hook-support D and hooks L, O, and 1? may be varied in form and ornamentation. I11 this case I have used such form as would be strong, light, and inexpensive.

The object of the invention, as shown and set forth, is to provide improved means for securing the bars A and B in parallel relation, having hooks pivotally secured therein that may be folded in line with the frame, or re- 7 5 movably secured in a transverse position,and to reduce the initial cost.

Having thus fully described the nature and a stated the object ofmy invention, what I claim,

and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As a new article of manufacture,a clothesrack consisting, essentially,of the bar A, having a downwardly-projected flange, K, and perforations H, bar 13, having transverse grooves E and perforations F, hook-supports 8 5 D, having hooks L P O, and end pieces, 0, for securing the bars A and B to each other at the proper distance apart,when combined and arranged substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.

2.
